ONR and grout sponge

the proline grout sponge is in the cleaning aisle with the mops and cleaning supplies are (sometimes they are up on the overstock shelf, you'll have to look very carefully) and usually on the ground next to the other sponges. here is the link and next time write down the item # and they should be able to look up how many they have in-stock... Went to lowes yesterday to pick some up. All I could find was the "Tile Solutions" grout sponge. It costs the same price as the proline one so I figured what the heck how different can it be? I asked an associate about the proline ones but he had no clue. Ill be trying them out sometime this week.

that's all my Lowes had too. I'd like some more input on this if anyone knows anything

So the tile solutions sponges are bad? 18 pages is alot to read... I didnt look in that section though I just went to the tile section.

if you've used it and there is no ill effects, then it's fine. IME, the proline GS is the softest/nicest one out of all the ones i've tried. some people like the HD GS better, it's all personal preference...

I havent tried it but I bought a couple and just waiting on my ONR to come in. Ill just go to lowes tomorrow and exchange them to be sure.

How long do the Lowe's Proline sponges last? I'm planning on using ONR and grout sponges all throughout winter. The nearest Lowe's to me is miles away (close to 100 miles round trip), so I'll stock up. I'm going next month and the next trip will be probably sometime middel of next year. How many should I get to last me the whole winter, say on a twice a week usage (I have 2 cars)?

Given gas prices, wouldn't it be cheaper to simply order a bunch online from Lowes?

the Lowes GS lasts a long time and if you buy let's say five (only around $10), you'll be set for years LOL...

You could be right. At around a conservative guess of 25mpg for 100 miles, my gas cost for the trip would be around $10. But I'd be paying shipping if I order online, so my net saving is closer to $5. Anyways, I'm picking up a few other items in that area anyway, so I'm not driving 100 miles just for sponges. LOL.

Thanks, five sounds like a good nice number! I'm still using my Home Depot GS but it's turned brownish now.

Ok, rather than start ANOTHER new thread on grout sponges, I'll ask my question here.

I found the proper grout sponge at Home Depot now. Looks like this:

What's the difference between a sponge like THAT..

and one like THIS:

^ This peanut shaped sponge is the type I used to use a long time ago before I discovered Autopia. That and other bad techniques (*cough* bath towels for drying, or the absorber *cough*) contributed to many many swirls. The irony is that that peanut sponge is sold with the auto detailing supplies at Canadian Tire and similar stores, specifically marketed for washing your car.

How can one type of sponge be so bad and another like these GROUT sponges be so good?

I think alot of it realy has to do with finding the softest sponge available. I've picked up and evaluated many of the bone sponges in comparison to the Proline (lowes) sponge and none of them are nearly as soft as the Proline. I too was worried about going "backwards" in technology with the grout sponge but have been very pleased in the last 30 days of testing them out.

To put it in comparison...It's kinda like a Yellow cutting pad vs. a black finishing pad in comparison to softness. (maybe not that extreme but you get the point).

There is a GS at Lowes that is a Proline sponge that is bone-shaped. I accidently grabed one when I was buying the square GS. It feels the same to me as the others, but it does grip better. Anyone ever seen these or tried them??
