My local craigslist has an ad running for a 72 Mercedes 220 for only $2,000 but it comes without an engine and oil pan. How much could an engine cost for this? Ive been searching around for a little bit now trying to find a good deal on a car that I can flip. I have friends that build race cars so they can help install the engine if need be. Here's the ads description on craigslist:

"1972 Mercedes Benz 220 four door, black. One Owner. Bought at factory shipped via Queen Elizabeth II. Under 100,000 miles on car. Restored in 1999. In storage since 2004. Comes with inflatable car capsule from California Car Covers ($500 value). Amazing condition. Needs engine and oil pan. Over $20,000 worth of body, chrome and interior parts bought in 1999 (I have receipts). If you want to put a little money into it you can have a rare european classic as a daily driver or you can make a mint off of selling the parts to a collector. LAST CHANCE, MOVING THURSDAY"

Could this be a good deal or more trouble than its worth? Im not fully sure how much this car could actually sell for if it did have an engine inside of it and Im not sure of the price of an engine and how long it would take to install it either. The pictures posted on the ad make it look like a new car but Im sure of course I will still need to spend a day or two detailing it properly if I did buy this.

This is most likely a very ordinary sedan. Is it something you've been dreaming about having parked in your garage?

You should find out why the engine is missing and hear the "other half of the story".
