One Step before Waxing

I have a Makita rotary and a PC. I've used mostly 3m products with the rotary (usually after painting a car, wetsanding and buffing, etc.) and Meguiars with the PC.

Given the dizzying array of products out there, does anyone have a recommendation for a one step product prior to waxing? I'm talking about something that has "some" cut but polishes as well. I will then wax after the fact. I would prefer to use my rotary (or PC if it works as good) with this product and just hit a vehicle "once" that is in fairly decent shape and then wax after.

Thanks for any recommendations.

First thing that comes to mind is maybe Vanilla Moose, or AIO.

Given the proper working time, VM has some super light cutting ability, and will leave the surface lsp ready.

With a Rotary, both Hi-Temp Light Cut and Optimum Polish have enough cut to do noticeable correction while still finishing down beautifully and wax-ready.

Sorry, but I'm not very familiar with 3m or mequiars polishes if thats the route you wanted to go. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

From Meguiar's I would suggest #80 which is called "Speed Glaze", a bit misleading since it is one of their cleaner/polishes and has enough cut to remove most swirls, especially with a rotary, but still finishes down very nicely ready for wax. It contains a fair amount of polish or "oils", which helps to make the product easy to work with, and to improve the finished look, especially on dark colors. It is also paint shop safe, if you want to use it in that environment.

I've also heard good things about OP, but haven't used it much, yet...

another hi temp low cut suggestion, you should be able to remove alot more imperfections with low cut compared to vm, and depending on the severity of the condition you can be wax ready very often with it, and its not very expensive at all like 24 dollars a gallon i believe.

For that kind of thing I always use polishes from 1Z. Even their fairly aggressive Ultra will *almost* finish out well enough to wax and on some paints you can do that. Their Paint Polish is a good choice and will almost always leave a ready-to-wax finish (well, maybe not the *best* such finish you've ever seen on really soft paint, but still mighty nice). Those are the ones I go to when I'm only doing one polish step and need a bit of correction. Hand/PC- Cyclo/rotary, they work fine by any method.

Along the (milder) lines of AIO and VM, Autoglym's SRP works well for this too.

I haven't used Meguiars Speed Glaze, but I would probably recommend Klasse AIO or Meguiars ColorX. Both will do a good job at prepping the paint and removing oxidation.

i would have to say it depends on the condition of the paint,

i have used IP and then gone straight to a LSP and have had no problems.

if the paint is free from most defects VM kicks butt :getdown
