One of my favorite cars to detail (56k warning)

Today I got to detail one of my favorites... I've done this car 3 times since last October, and I can't get enough of it...

Thought I'd share some pictures of this 76 Olds Regency 98... Original paint and less than 30,000 miles:

(Her name is "Baby".... Can't ya just hear the theme from "Shaft" when you look at this car?)
 
The last time I did this car I had used:
3m SMR
Kolorglaze
Collinite #845 Liquid Insulator Wax (3 coats)


This time:
wash
clay
AIO (with PC 7424 / polishing pad)
Z5 (1 coat)
Z2 (2 coats)

The difference in the two techniques was very apparent... The Zaino gave it that 'candied apple' look - which is what the customer was after.

p.s. I love detailing cars from the 70s, but I really need one of those creepers. My lower back is killing me today! :mad:

How do you offer Zaino treatment as a detailing option ??? I have used Zaino on some of my personal vehicles in the past, and even the "ZFX" products require quite a bit of "cure time". I would never be able to offer this products to my customers because of this "cure time" and the amount of inconvenience it would be for me to return to the customer after each application for removal. Is this Zaino treatment an option for just some of your customers due to their proximity to you and the type of vehicle they own...

I doubt any soccer moms want their Mini vans Zainoed .:D

BTW ... The Olds looks great !!!

Do you use Collinite products regularly ??? Opinion ???

I only offer Zaino as an option for specific customers (higher end vehicles, classic cars, etc) And I charge a little more for it (ok, a lot more).

Incidentally, I'm not a "Zaino" fanatic. Sure, I really like the stuff - and think it is extremely durable, but I don't use it exclusively.

Having said that - let me add that I also don't adhere strictly to the "Zaino Rules of Order"... I've found Z1 and (most recently) ZFX to be a bunch of hype. I've put multiple coats on cars with a "curing" time of about 20-30 minutes per coat WITHOUT an accelerator like ZFX. The secret is low humidity and heat. By the way, I work in a location that ranges from 2500-3500 feet above sea level in the mountains, thus low humidity AND high heat is the norm for this area.

The only Collinite product I use regularly is #845 Insulator Wax. I've been using it since 1988, and still love it! I buy bottles of it by the case directly from Collinite Corporation. If you ever get the opportunity, try topping AIO with Collinite... Wow!

This particular wax continues to bead well after 8 weeks on daily driven vehicles. Goes on quick and easy off. Add to this the fact that it won't stain trim - and it's easy to see why I love it... (Oh did I mention it's great as a marine wax too?) :cool:
