omg, check out this silly garage!

thought that was the GN you just bought....guess not, although that guys garage was just as impressive. Your's aint so shabby either.

Did you notice that GN has no fender "GN Intercooled" badge or "3.8 Litre SFI Turbo" hood badge. I hope that guy wasn't trying to pass it off as an original, my guess would be it was repainted.

I'm not sure why they would compromise the fire rating. If installed properly there should not be any issues....
Just punching a hole in the ceiling might compromise the fire rating.

I would think that as long as the fixture is backed by a fully enclosed metal can and you use a proper conduit inlet or Romex clamp it should be OK. In our neighborhood you would also have to seal any gap between the can and the drywall with "brown" silicone sealant.

aren't the lights just standard recessed lighting. That's pretty common in houses these days isn't it?

The ceiling inside a house doesn't require the same fire rating as a wall/ceiling/floor that separates a garage from an occupied interior space.

Just looking at the picture all you can see are what appear to be a standard R-30 or R-40 spots and common recessed bezels. There's no way to tell what the fixtures look like behind them.

There are fixtures rated for installation into open space like and attic and those that can have insulation piled on them or be installed into an enclosed space. I don't know how (or if) the garage/fire rating thing plays into it the situation.
