Old Shampoo Bottle

I have an old shampoo bottle. I just rinsed it out THOROUGHLY and dried it too.

Can I use this to dispense some Meguiars #21 that I have in a 64oz size?

It is the perfect size dispenser, but I am not sure if it is safe to reuse a container that had another chemical in there. I don't want to contaminate my #21. This stuff aint cheap.

If you have a local Big Lots, you can buy smaller size Rubbermaid squeeze bottles. I transfer all my gallon jugs of car wash soap into them. They were $1.98 each. They work awesome. You can check them out HERE

However the hole may be too big for your liking to dispense the #21. But you get an idea.

Also, you want to make sure the resin ID code on the bottom of the bottle (the recycling number logo) is suitable to handle the #21. If it is too weak, the bottle may warp and bend out of shape.

Look at the bottom of your products. Most of them have the number 3. Your shampoo bottle may have a number 2. So there may be an issue over time. The number 3 bottles are made of Vinyl (Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC). Those are the best bottles.

I know my Vanilla Moose, Red Machine Glaze and Optimum polish all have warped my 8oz. numbered 2 bottles that I transfer them into so I don't have to carry a full bottle.

All my other products are ok even the #21 last time I checked.

But treat yourself to a nice bottle. They are certainly cheap enough and easily found.

If the bottle is marked 3, is it still okay to use? I am just concerned of any soap residue that was absorbed by the plastic that may seap into the #21. I know if I am THIS concerned, I should just buy new bottles, but, the size is perfect, the hole on the cap is perfect, I am just curious about cross contamination.

Don't know about cross contamination, but the #3 is fine since most car care products come in #3 bottles.

Just go to your local Target, WalMart, KMart, CVS, RiteAid or beauty supply store and buy a bottle! They have all sorts of shapes, sizes and spouts.

Plus it will be in its own unique bottle, not some recycled shampoo labeled bottle.
