Old red paint, you got to love it :-)

Inspired by theeved's pics on the gorgeous detail in red(!) i want to share a pic of last weekend fun.

I detailed a 9 years old red Volvo 850 which has been outside all life. The car was milky-white all over. When I started I thought that no one would belive me so I took a snapshot of the trunk during the detail.

It is the reflections of the lamps you see on the left side of the trunk.

Since it is winter and it gets dark at 3pm I did not get any after-pics of the whole car. It's coming back for a refresh in a couple of weeks, maby I'll get som full body pics then.

Looks great!

From the red residue on your newspaper masking, I would have to guess the car was not clear-coated. Just out of curiosity, what products did you use?

Thanx!

That's right, the paint is solid red without clear coat.

The products I use is manufactured by Lahega which is a swedish chemical company and they have a semi-pro line of products and a line for professional use. I use the later, mostly becuase it is much cheaper than the consume line found at the store.

The car was treated twice with the rotary:

1st step with a heavy compound and a yellow (hard) pad

2nd step with a fine swirl remover and a 3M black waffelpad (soft)

Then I applied Lahega Brightguard which is a paint protector applied in two steps, first the protector/gloss enhancher and after 20 minutes the hardener.

Brightguard has a little longer durability than normal wax, therefore it is popular for the winter prep. For cars that require (or to be correct, their owners) extra brightness I apply a layer of AutoSmart Platinum (english product), that is a showcar wax, and then the Brightguard. That way I get a great shine and durable protection for the winter.
