Old man full filling a long time dream

I had a MarkVII in 1979. Cartier, cream yellow with burgandy leather, 460 ci.

Loved it, but decided to go with a new car and regret it to this day.

Not sure if I am going to get this particular car.

Drove it this morning, has a couple of issues and if they don't come down a grand, will continue the search.

Interesting, Bonnani emailed me the same thing this morning before I left to test drive it.

He said he got a couple of boxes of them stashed away, plus the AutoCheck shows it had the headlight ones replaced in the last 6 months.

No rust, two small bird bomb issues, one on the hood, one on the trunk, but that is not what is making me slow down on buying it.

Needs some exhaust pipe work, new front rotor and couple of electronic gizmos parts for the interior, which are the same as the T-Birds used for those years.

I'm going to do my numbers and go back to them with a low ball and see what happens.

Found a private owner LSC 125 miles east of here, 76,000, one owner, the metalic white, looks good on pics, going to call him and see what the real deal is.

Or, I may just wait until April 2 and put all the bucks into another older collectable.

Yeah, if you can't find the right car better to walk all together. Look for a steal in this market. Someone's loss with be your gain.

Any interest in a vintage Vette? Perfect for that maturing single adult...:woot2:

No more Vette's for me.

In my time had a 57, 58, 63 and an 80.

Going to be one at the auction in April, so who knows, I may change my mind if the money is right.

If I really wanted to go that way, would probably be a repelica Cobra with a 302 or 351.

C. Charles Hahn- Having lived with a few '95-'96 Caprice 9C1s, I'd look for a '95 instead, lots of advantages IME with zero downsides (as far as I ever found).

Oh really? Now you've got me curious, what advantages does a '95 have over a '96? I've always been told that from a collectability standpoint the '96 is the better buy due to the analog gauges with tach, and console shifter (in the Impala).

Never woulda guessed that you're half my age  And yeah, I absolutely mean that as a compliment.

Thank you for the compliment! :tea:

I'm really surprised by that because the way you "carry yourself" , the way you "speak" in your posts is definitely very wise and sharp. Who says wisdom always comes with age? :2thumbs:

I'm only going to be 35 this year.

Wow; I really appreciate the kind words, Bill! :humble:

In regards to Impala SS's:

My opinion on the 94-5-6 B-body is the mirrors on the 94's are small and attached to the door, not in the corner of the window like 95-6. The 94 Impala had a cheesy plastic trim peice on the rear quarter window that wasn't on the 95-6.

94-5 had the OBD1 PCM that is usually cheaper to tune than the 96 OBDII system.

96 Impala's had the analog guages and the console shift which is preferred by most people. (I solved that by adding the 6 speed manual in the console and have a 4th gen Z28 cluster to install)

95 was the first year for green (Dark Green Gray Metallic) and maroon (Dark Cherry Metallic) with fewer produced than in 96. 94 was the lowest production and the only color available, so to some this is desirable from a 'rare' standpoint.

That is a basic rundown of the differences, but it seems like most people like the analog guages and floor shifter over all of the different quirks.

Accumulator might have more info on the 9C1's (police package) Caprices. I'm not up on the specifics of those.

Thanks Randy; I had forgotten about the Z28 cluster swap, now that you mention it I do remember seeing a few on B-Body forums a while back. Did you do the T56 swap yourself, or was it built by a performance shop?

I test drove a '95 DCM a couple years ago that only had about 40K miles on it at the time, and it was a great car but the asking price was astronomical. Then I checked out two 96es, a DCM and a DGGM. Came close to buying the DGGM one as it was owned by a guy who had two of them (one that was built for drag racing with a stroker LT4 and a procharger, and this one which was his wife's DD) and he'd put some nice mods on it (Borla exhaust, Hooker headers, BBK throttle body, etc.) but it needed too much work cosmetically for the price. The DCM was in better cosmetic shape, but needed mechanical work (front suspension/steering components were shot, had an exhaust leak, some wiring was hacked up, etc.)

Ah well. Maybe someday I'll find one in good shape, or pick one up cheap and do an LSX/T56 swap once I get the time and money in place to build a larger shop to work in.

C. Charles Hahn- Forgot all about the diffs in the Impalas..my b-body experiences are mainly with 9C1s; I actually disliked my (brand new!) Impala SS so much that I finally took it back to the dealer! Good thing he was a family friend or that woulda cost me big.

I was primarily thinking about the OBDI and lack of additional O2 sensors. I had an easier time tweaking/maintaining the '95s.

That is my dream car - '66 327 with magnesium knockoffs. Still kicking myself that I had one and let it slip away in my foolish youth.

Also had a Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland motor.... pulled like a beast. Loved that motor....

So many choices!

Ya know...while I wish I'd kept a few of my cars, just for sentimental reasons, I don't really miss them with regard to actually driving 'em. And I had some *really* wild stuff too. I honestly feel they weren't all *that* great when it comes to the actual driving dynamics, even the monster-motor ones.

Eh, just IMO/IME, probably oughta put the flame-suit on when I post such [stuff] :o
