OK whats the truth?

I recently read this article that ends with talking about the melting points of various LSPs. Professional Carwashing & Detailing Online :: Brought to you by Grand View Media

Ah, good link. When Ron K. talks, I listen (even if he and I don't always see exactly eye-to-eye).

Interesting about how adding synthetics apparently *can* (in the authors' opinions) help carnaubas last in the heat. The stuff specifically mentioned in that article is one ingredient in the old 3M Showcar Paste that's worked so well for me and it makes me wonder if there's something (functionally) similar in the other waxes that never give me heat-related problems.

One thing (not on the topic at hand) that I don't get is the statement that temps over 115F will cause cracking in the paint  Whether buffing-induced or environmental, I'd expect heat to be heat and 115 isn't anything excessive, black cars in AZ get much hotter than that :nixweiss Seems more like it shoulda read "..*can* cause..." to me.

I agree Accumulator- that statement seems funny. I still think the carnauba portion breaks down but the synthetic portion can remain longer. It probably depends on the ingredients used and you'd probably have to be a chemist to know for sure. I think a real carnauba such as S100 or the Zymols would react differently. I believe that most synthetic blends don't have a large percentage of carnauba.

wannafbody- Yeah, with none of us being chemists (and/or doing any real/scientific-control testing) I guess we gotta just go by what we experience first-hand, and I bet that's gonna vary from one person to the next.

Heh heh, I'm kinda funny regarding the Souveran on the Jag..I get the heat-related issue on the hood but I still like the look so much better than anything else I've tried that I just grumble and redo that panel when it needs it. Not that I drive the Jag enough for it to really be an issue :o
