OK, I got a question for ya

Detailing NY

I have tried & tried & tried & tried to remove a certain kind of mark from a vehicle and have had no luck. Maybe some one on autopia has the answer!

I can not get the back window marks on trucks clean. You know on older trucks when they have the wiper mark that runs across the back glass. I can get it to come out.

I have tried to compound the window, polish the window, wax the window, glass polish, glass cleaner. You name it, I have tried it. I have even tried baking soda! Rubbing alcohol! Vinegar! Nothing works.

This is only on older neglected cars, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

NYDetailer,

I'm so glad you asked this question. I've got the same problem but it's on my 96 Accord! I've tried steel wool, vinegar/alcohol/DW, AIO, and nothing has worked. I too would like to know if there is anything that can be done.

Zaino Z12. This stuff will take off any marks or stains in glass....it's awesome. Took off all my stains, and I even had some racing numbers on the windows and got lazy and left them on for about 2 weeks and they got baked on....I couldn't even scrape this stuff off (shoe polish), and the Zaino Z12 got it off in about 10 seconds....great stuff.

If the wiper marks have actually etched the glass, you are SOL. Maybe a glass specific polishing compound would work.

Yeah I would probably bet that you need a strong professional-level glass polish of some kind based on cerium oxide or something. I've never questioned how strong glass polishes are compared to paint polishes and compounds, but my Autoglym glass polish doesn't seem like it's much stronger.

Curious. Maybe sandpaper/steel wool? Then compounding? Maybe AutoInt's Cerious polish, with a wool pad?

I don't know. Maybe call Ron Ketchum at AutoInt:

Good Luck, let us know...

Well we tried again today with some kind of glass compound, this stuff was like a big thick liquid/paste. We used a polishing tool and it still did not come out.

Went to my friends body shop and it still did not come out. After we looked into more i realized that it was etched in the glass.

Nothing short of replacement will get those etched on marks.

I've tried with a hard stone-like wheel and polish, but they never come out. Looks better, but still there.

I just remind people that the only way to resolve it is to replace it.

Deanski

I had the same thing on the rear hatch of my Tahoe from the wiper. I never tried it, but somebody told me to buff the window using peanut butter. It's obviously not a permanant fix, but it may do the trick for a little while until it wears off ?? If you do try it, let me know if it works.
