Oily issues with Glanz wax

sQuashed

Lack of oxygen up here
I purchased some 1Z products to use on my 01 Black SS camaro.. I got the MP and the GW. I had very minor swirls on the hood so I used the MP and it came out awesome. The rest of the paint is in excellent condition so I decided to use the GW only. The Car looked real good after I finished (evening)., but the last few days the temp has been reaching 98 degrees and I notice alot of "oily" residue in different places on the car. I'll hit it with a detailing towel and 30 minutes later it reappears. Am I using too much?

I do not own a PC yet so I'm doing this by hand if that makes a difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!

I put Glanz on our Pilot and never noticed any of your oily effects. Granted, it wasn't very hot while I had it on and I have since stripped it and put a variety of products finally topped with carnuba.

Also, I think Glanz is easiest to apply by hand. Gets to be a little bit of a pain with a large vehicle, but with how thin the wax is, I think a foam pad would soak up too much of the wax to be useful.

I haven't seen this problem with GW either. I wouldn't think that it would have anything to do with using too much, however. I used to much at first, and the only problem I had was that it was *very* hard to buff off.

I second the vote for putting GW on by hand. I tried the PC first, and that's when I used too much. The finishing pad soaks up too much of the GW and then way too much ends up coming back off onto the paint. It was a bear to buff off. I almost immediately switched to doing it by hand and it was a night and day difference in terms of ease of buffing.

I washed the car today and you can still see the problem areas even after applying more pressure than I would of liked to on the Black Car. Its more of a hazing now as opposed to the oily substance. Any ideas what I could have done wrong?

At this point, I might try contacting Nick at Detailer's Paradise (or whoever you purchased the GW from) and ask them. This is awfully strange. Steve @ Poorboy's World sells these nice sponges. Cheap and they are just perfect for the GW or many other finishing products.

Thanks zzyyzx. I honestly think I just laid it on too thick and the extreme heat of the last few days let me know that it was "user error" !! Either that or I didnt buff it off good enough:angry

Its all a learning experience for me !! If it happens again next time, I'll get some pictures for you guys.. Thanks for the help.

sQuashed, It is possible that you did lay it on too thick. It's just that GW is the last thing for me to imagine as being 'oily' because it's synthetic. Unless, again, you laid it on too thick which is the most common reason for any GW issues.

Try spraying a section with water and buffing off with a clean towel or microfiber (better) if you haven't already. That should get rid of any excess.

Thanks Mike. I did that yesterday and its all gone. Im going to do it right tomarrow before my Wife and I's long road trip.. I'll give it the 1000 mile road test. Ive been totally stoked by the MP(must of applied it correctly) so is there any advantage to applying Glanz and then Souveran Paste Wax over the Glanz? Or is that overkill?

The only possible reason is that you applied it too thick. Pour some in a small spray bottle, spray a foam applicator VERY lightly, and apply it. When it hazes seconds later, it should be very difficult to see on the paint; if you view it at a sharp angle, you can confirm that the panel is in fact covered. Also, don't forget to shake it vigorously for at least a few minutes before you use it.

Maybe I missed it, but what did you use to remove it?

I would think that it would turn out a lot better with a microfiber than a terry towel or something like that.

I used a microfiber cloth to remove it. Its all good now, I removed the GW and just started over using the MP again and took my time. Im a noob and this was a great learning experience.
