I had a reasonable amount of motor oil spill in my trunk and make the mat/carpet oily. What is the best way to clean it? The mat is to large to fit into my washing machine. Would a rag and some water and woolite do the trick, or maybe oxyclean and water?
Petroleum soils - substances that do not contain water, nor are they miscible, these soil types include, motor oils, and crease and road tar, and require a solvent type cleaner.
It might be better to just replace the mat/carpet. Usually an auto salvage yard would probably have a similar close fit replacement mat/carpet. Something to think about.
