FAQ`s

What is this vaping?

Vaping is the process of inhaling vapor infused with nicotine (0 nicotine is available) and flavorings via an Electronic Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS) or Personal Vaporizer (PV). Sometimes marketed as "Electronic Cigarettes", or "e-cigs" which really rustles my jimmies because vaping is NOT smoking, contains no tobacco, is not a tobacco product, and is by no means a cigarette.

What`s inside the vaporizer?

"Vape Juice" or "E liquids" consists of propylene glycol, (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), food grade flavorings, and nicotine. PG is FDA approved for human consumption, and is generally regarded as safe by the FDA. Found in a multitude of products like shampoo, make up. Lotion, cough syrup etc we use every day. It is added in antifreeze to make it safer for pets and children in case of accidental ingestion. VG is produced by separating the glycerin from vegetable oil. Mass consumed by the public. Nicotine is no more harmful and addictive than caffeine, and is a mild stimulant. It is toxic in high doses, however it`s not humanly possible to vape at a rate that would cause toxic levels in the blood.

I`ll fill this first post with more information later.

That didn`t take long :)

I did some research and it looks like there was some risk for popcorn lunch when manufacturers were using everything and anything to make new flavors. Diacetyl is used to give popcorn a buttery flavor, and while safe to consume it`s not safe to inhale. Juice manufacturers stopped using it a long time ago. Supposedly there`s a lot more diacetyl in cigarettes.

Does Vaping Cause Popcorn Lung? - Vaping360

"The Public Health England said in August that e-cigarettes are estimated 95 percent healthier than tobacco cigarettes, and help smokers quit smoking tobacco as well. A Government agency also noted that there is no hard evidence to support the fact that vaping specifically leads to popcorn lung disease. However, long-term effects of e-cigarettes are still under research."

Do you smoke or vape Swanicyouth or neither?

RaysWay- Hey, thanks for starting this. Even if it`s not all that active a thread it`ll be here, easily found, for those of us who want it.

Regarding Popcorn Lung, the stuff that can presumably (that`s as far as I`ll go when it`s extrapolated to vaping, AFAIK the actual known cases of it involved something very different) is easy enough to avoid when choosing ejuices.

Not that people should be inhaling anything except air..but some of us are going to.

What juices actually taste like tobacco? OK, too general...that`s like asking "what candy tastes like fruit", but I`ve wasted a ton of money trying to find something that tastes like any of the (many) analog cigarettes that I liked.

And what about *menthol* tobacco? Not "minty", but actual mentholated tobacco? I was OK with Johnson Creek`s Wisconsin Frost but 1) they changed it, and 2) they then promptly went out of business.

With analogs I`d smoke four or five different ones regularly and I`d think I could match *something*...but the juices that I liked have all disappeared :(

Holy Grail of Ejuices IMO = tastes like a Camel nonfilter; one of Life`s Great Pleasures that`ll kill you dead as fried chicken.

And *one of these days* I need to find another sytem that`s good for Mouth-To-Lung ("MTL", I guess..) vaping? Seems like everything`s going sub-ohm but *as I understand it* that`s not all that similar to smoking analogs.

I recently purchased a Vuse ecig... I don`t plan to get into the whole vaping craze, I`m just trying to stop smoking. I opt for no flavors, I`m not trying to make it something I enjoy doing. To me, its just a means to an end.

Accumulator- I asked a friend of mine who is experienced and he was enthuthiastic about Rangler or Full Virginia Flake by Mountain Oak Vapors for true tobacco.

Their website says theres some regulation with true menthol, so you have to purchase their menthol seperately and add it yourself. Which is nice to be able to control the amount you like.

Heh heh, I`ve thought/said that too..."don`t want to make this any more enjoyable than it already is".

I averaged fewer than two cigs/day for *years*, but I sure do vape a lot by comparison. OK..no evident impacts so why not? But still...

RaysWay- Ah, great! The more suggestions the better, I`m trying to get ahead of the curve while I still have lots of stuff I`m OK with on the shelf.

MyFreedomSmokes` Four Star General is supposed to be their RY4, which can taste like just about anything these days since every one of `em is different. But that 4SG is simply awful IMO. Thought I might like their Old Soldier or Carolina Tobacco, but nah..yuck there too.

Their RY3 isn`t bad and is a backup, but I don`t really like it.

Their Menthols taste weird to me.

Backwoods Blends has some OK juices (RY4, Bogart, Menthol Medium, and Orchard Frost) but I don`t like them quite as much as the Backwoods Brew varieties that preceded them.

I was very surprised that I can enjoy certain "Apple" flavor tobacco blends, NEVER woulda thunk it as I sure never liked fruit/etc. flavored tobaccos at all.

Anybody try Black Note? Their Solo (menthol) tastes like a better version of (most any) MFS menthol, but my tastebuds went blind to it after *just a few hits*. Expensive couple of hits!

Heheh, normally we`re talking about something else when we say that.

I have to keep a couple different flavors at hand because I will no longer taste them aka "vaper`s tongue." Sometimes switching flavors won`t solve it. I`ve found if you bite a slice of lime it will take care of it.

I used to be a menthol smoker, but absolutely hate menthol flavors for some reason. I used to go to a local shop that made their own liquid and could mix me a max VG liquid as I don`t react too well with much PG. After a while though the quality got inconsistent and the environment got too "hipster" for me (even though I act and dress the part, but I digress, lol). Found another shop that sells a variety of decent blends I can handle.

My biggest thing about vaping though is when I`m home or especially in the car, I`m a serious chain vaper. I am only using 6mg nic, but I still know it`s not good. Don`t know if I`ll ever kick that habit.

Nizmo- Heh heh indeed regarding the usual interpretation of "an expensive couple of hits" (says this guy who grew up in the `60s-`70s) ;)

I switch juices a *LOT* even though I have a few that I stick with pretty much daily and keep tasting OK. Gee, I have over a dozen tanks going.

I`ve *never* been in a vaping emporium. Yeah, that Hipster Vibe thing...the ones in my area are either gonna be like that (judging from their ads) or they`re in really low-brow Discount Tobacco Shops.

On kicking- at this time I`m not really worried about the health consequences of vaping. Not keen on the vascular constriction, but the overall side effects/consequences are *so* minimal compared to analogs that I can tell myself it`s all relative. At this year`s Physical my MD didn`t even give me the annual "...and of course you oughta quit.." lecture.

My wife and I hardly ever smoked in the house, and only in certain rooms when we did, so it`s easy to keep it that way with the vaping, only doing it in two sorta closed-off rooms. I`d smoke in the vehicles, but usually just when Accumulatorette was doing the driving (when I was the Designated Drinker, which can get me fiending on nicotine anyhow). Running an ecig would be a bit too demanding in the sense of it being conscious, focused behavior (and one that requires a hand), too much like attempted multitasking for me. I don`t want to be That Guy who needed two seconds to react to something unexpected but only had one and a quarter. Eh, I just don`t like multitasking period, one of the tasks always gets compromised.

I don`t vape but I don`t mind second-hand "exposure" to vaping cause I know the health consequences for that low of dose are null (and they usually smell good!) and I always thought it was annoying when people are mad at someone vaping in public so I`ve been intending to look up whether the ingredients in vape liquid and fog machine liquid are the same. Just looked it up and fog machines use glycol or glycerin or a combination, which is the same as vaporizers, or mineral oil which is more potentially dangerous than vaporizers.
Now I can ask the annoyed people if they`re equally annoyed with fog machines.

Themikerobe- Welcome to Autopia!

That`s very reasonable of you, wish more people saw it that way.

And heh heh, I bet a lot of folks *are* stressed out that somebody somewhere is running a fog machine or a [anything]...no end to the stuff that some folks get irate about. More fun than addressing their own shortcomings :D

RaysWay- I dunno how good that study (really) was, but 1) Gut Bacteria is sure a big deal these days and 2) yeah, no surprise that it`s another area where smoking tobacco is worse than inhaling vapor. But, uhm..."10 smokers".. without any details?!? Heh heh, guess I shouldn`t cast aspersions on a study whose results I like, but still..

Heh heh, no argument there even if I do kneejerk about "two wrongs don`t.." :D

Even though they`re supposedly disrupting the Vaping Industry, I can see some good in Big Tobacco getting on the Vaping bandwagon. Wasn`t all that long ago that there was a push to ban vaping, but with Big Tobacco involved that`s not gonna happen.
