NXT wax? Opinions on it's durability

the look of nxt seems to fade after 2 weeks for me. I was quite excited to use it at first when i knew nothing about detailing. The claims on the bottle sounded impossible. But after becoming an autopian, i am getting bored with this wax.
 
I have two cars that are outside 24/7, no garage queens. I moved from the Meg's ppp last year because I needed more shine, oh forgot to mention I have a 97 dark purple and a 04 dark red. My experienceis as follows. Attracks dusk, a little too much for my liking. Shine only last for about 2-4 weeks. Water still beads tightly on some not all of the horizontal areas i.e. (hood, trunk and roof). First purchased it in April 2004 when it just hit the market then it disappeared, only to resurface again this year 05, I figured maybe they reformolated it. I called MEG's to inquire about the $5 buck difference between NXT & PPP, and the difference in product. Their response was " NXT gave a better shine while PPP had the duriablity". PPP rated 22 out of 46 waxes tested on the GURU report, so the shine was a step up, just slightly. Now that I joined The COLLECTIVE, I don't believe the marketing HYPE on waxes anymore..
 
Isn't there some flaw in that we assume that slickness and beading are a sign of durability of a wax? Especially when you consider that NXT is a synthetic. I can attribute slickness and beading to a wax because of how carnauba has that 'oily' property. I don't know, maybe I'm just blurtin out crap.
 
Any wax you put on is going to start degrading immediately, the question is how much and what properties are important to you. I find the NXT Tech Wax protects for at least 2-3 months on every car I put it on but that doesn't mean that the slickness and shine stay that long, may 3-4 weeks at most. Of course you can say that about any wax. I've used Klasse AIO and SG for years before and that's supposed to last a long time but I find that it lasts about the same as NXT but NXT is a lot easier to apply. There's no miracle wax that looks freshly waxed for months at a time except maybe under museum conditions.



For my cars, what I do is wax about every 3 months but I do the hood every month to keep the slickness and make the bugs and bee poop easier to wash off.
 
I wax my NXT car about once a month and it seems to be holding up just fine. I'm going to invest in the booster wax and use that in between. The car is garaged most of the time and not driven all that much. I find that QDing with the Speed Detailer really helps.



No complaints. I'm still liking how it looks and love how easy NXT is to use.
 
IMO NXT's bright shine tends to fade after 4 weeks or a couple washes-I've always gotten 3 months + bleading from NXT on cars outside 24/7. Megs claims that NXT continues to protect after the beading stops.
 
I have no doubt that NXT will give darker color cars more depth and darker shine, it will also protects from water and airborne elements, but I still do not trust not just with NXT, but all other liquid waxes that it provides the same sacrifical barrier in terms of thickness as old school pastes like #16 or 476S in the winter months when ice formation glide on the top of the wax instead of the paint. Cars that I have applied #16 stay swirlless 1-2 years through winter condtions when properly taken care of or only the wax barrier gets some minor swirls, but the paint is intact and still polished.
 
For me, the slickness goes away in about two weeks. This is about after 3 washes. Beading ends very quickly after. I'm not sure how everybody is getting good results, but it may just be my expectations.

So the ticket for pre-winter detailing (in November before it gets really cold) would be to put a coat of #16 paste wax on top of the NXT? I am concerned about how NXT will hold up over the winter as I'm often unable to wax for as long as 3 months and would like something that lasts.

i'm glad people are finding success with NXT, but it "seems" like its not standing up, in my observations... :ca



also, its a tad bit pricey, for me to go racing out and buying more,,, i may try #26, or the new Mother's stuff,,see how I like it.

I do that all the time, topping #16 over NXT gives the darker richer depth of NXT and the protection and gloss of #16, so when I need to refresh the detail, I just add another coat of #16 and I don't have to do the NXT again.
 
I used the paste version of NXT and I last applied a coat in early May. I've been through weekly washes and use Speed Detailer for upkeep. While NXT is not very slick and whatever slickness I get is gone in a week, I get nice beading in the rain and sheeting when rinsing after a wash. Still looks very good and I still don't see a dire need to recoat. NXT sometimes gives the wrong impression that it's gone.

Sounds like a good plan! If anything I'm curious as to how much different it will look and last. :2thumbs:
