NXT and smearing?

Anyone have trouble with NXT smearing?

I washed my truck today and it felt gummy. While drying with a WW the finished actually smeared. The only thing I have on it presently is NXTx2.

Fortunately FD saved the day.

no....did you shake it good?

Yeah, this is a week "after the fact" ... I don't know what's going on.

This is also my second application. I didn't have this problem after washing with my first application. I'm dumbfounded:nixweiss

Yes, me also. I just QEW'd today and it smeared like I had a feeling it would. I S&W'd afterwards, still smeared but not as badly as the QEW did.

So, if its only us what are we doing wrong. Here's what I use, compare it to what you use:

Pakshak MFs washed with woolite and dried on low

QEW

Poorboys Spray and Wipe

Meguiars Quik Detailer (consumer stuff in red bottle)

All smear, and only on NXT.

I have 2 vehicles with NXT both washed conventionally - car shampoo, hose and buckets. No problem. I doubt if it is QEW because that is what I believe Scott uses.

Very strange results. I emphasize "results because it happen to 2 people. :nixweiss

I just hand washed with EO car wash and dried with a WW. In fairness, prior to either application of NXT I didn't do any prep (other than wash).

Perhaps it didn't bond:nixweiss.

I never mentioned it until now, but I have had a problem with NXT smearing on me as well. AND, it appears that some of the smears have shown up after the fact. A wash makes it better then the smears seem to appear again. Its weird, like its lifting off the paint or something.

I am stripping it down and trying a new combo, NXT has sorta let me down performance wise.

I have had a hell of a time with the smearing as well on both my car and my wife's. I have had to resort to misting the paint with water while applying to help with the smearing. Seems the second I apply it, it is sorta caked up and then I have to work to get it to spread evenly.

I have used it about 5 times so far. This definitley makes it a nuisance to use. Comes off nicely though.

I used NXT on white and black vehicles in cool 38* weather and never had any smearing or streaks, short lived durability, yes, streaking never. Maybe different brand paints react differently?:nixweiss I used it on Honda and Toyota paint.

This sounds like the klasse haze. That nightmare, I unfortuneatly did experience.

It smears if I apply too much. I noticed that the smears tend to go away by itself after sitting out in the sun. I am also suspecting its compatibility with other QDs like CK Quick Shine. Overall NXT has worked for me.

I haven't had any smearing problems. I apply real thin layers, wait the required time and remove. No smearing upon removal or later on when washing.

:nixweiss what the problem is.

breakneck's issue seems to be in line with my own, the smearing shows up after the fact. The next day usually. Rain doesn't remove them and washing doesn't either, it takes wiping. Its almost like there's oil on the surface. You can kind of push the smearing around but its VERY hard to remove as when you think its gone its back the next day.

It almost looks like buffer holograms in the sun. Never experienced it with anything else on this car, I've used EX, SG, Collinite 476, S100, #26.

I have not yet had any smearing. I apply very thin coats with PC (hard to break habits from Zaino application technique) and allow to dry normally 30 minutes and in most cases 60 mins or more ( another Zaino habit :o). After buffing I allow NXT to cure after the single or double coat for at least 24 hrs indoors.

This problem seems to be similiar to applying too much Zaino or not allowing the Z2/5 to dry completely. These 2 items can cause a post buffing haze hours later that is usually cured with a Z6 wipe down or Z7 bath. Could this be also the case with NXT. :nixweiss

For those who have had an episode of hazing, what ambient temperature did you apply this product? How long and to what degree did you allow NXT to dry (haze)? Thick or thin layers? Was NXT applied evenly?

I found NXT a PITA to apply by hand but then again I am not Scott ;). With that stated I still had no problems when applied by hand.

Just checked my NXT applied to a 7 hour prepped hood. Zero hazing. :D

Some observations and "best guesses" about NXT:

1) After washing and the smearing episode the truck looked like hell.

2) I'm SURE I applied NXT too thick

3) The next morning my truck looked great, as if I just waxed it.

4) IMO, NXT isn't the very best look my truck has achieved, but considering I didn't prep before applying and I just went to my local Wally World and pulled it off the shelf ... it's a worthy product.

5) I strongly disagree with those who claim NXT is as bright and reflective as S100. It's "deeper" but not even close to being "brighter".

6) Witholding my final observation about NXT after I top it with #16.

I've applied it in several different temps up to 65 degrees with no difference. THin layers by PC, I only let it haze about 15 minutes maybe thats the problem...

I had no problems with NXT, applied with PC waited about 10-15 mins after first section and removed with MFT. Looked pretty good. Next day I QDd with Final Inspection and applied S100. Looked great. It's been 3 days, no problems. Matter of fact the paint looks better than after the S100 application.
