Nu Finish: your thoughts and opinions

I used to use Nu Finish for years. I first started using it in the early 90's when the selection of car care products were smaller.

When I used it, it worked great on wheels, chrome, and boats.

Compared to today's products, what are your thoughts and opinions of Nu Finish for its protection ability and its durability.

What type of actual cleaning abilities does it have?

Does anyone here use it?

Thanks.

I used this several times and IMO two coats of Nu Finish will not last a year. There are better OTC products out there like Megs and Duragloss.

For durability I'd get one of the Collinite waxes (476 or 845) and to clean I'd use a good AIO like Z-AIO (Zaino) or Klasse AIO.

That being said I would consider Nu Finish better in many respects than some of the other OTC products. While I have never used it on a car I did buy some a couple of weeks ago. We were installing some medical equipment and had poured a large epoxy pad for leveling purposes. The pad felt tacky like maintenance had come in and waxed it along with the floor. I wanted to both clean that off and make the pad look a bit better so I found the local Wal-Mart and picked up some Nu Finish. The liquid Nu Finish sure has a lot of solvents and/or cleaners from the smell and it did what I wanted it to do.

So while I think there are better products for ease or use, durability, and cleaning, I'd much rather someone use Nu Finish on their car than just hot wax from the local swirl-a-matic car wash. I hear it stains trim pretty bad so be careful if you're going to try it again.

I know it is typically trashed here. But I had a full bottle, so I use it on my minivan roof, just to use it up. But truly, I applied it in January and I just finished washing my van (August). It is still beading up there like crazy. It certainly has lasted longer than multiple coats of my Natty's blue, which I have applied several times to only one NuFinish application. I figure since most people here hate it, and I trust their opinion, I still only use it on my roof, and my kids cars, which they never wash. But I am happy not to have to keeping waxing way up there.

By the way, I assume that 25% stoddard solvent must be a bad thing? Carcinogenic?

Yes, the Nu Finish may not be in the same league as Klasse, Z, Pinnacle, etc etc.

Comparisons would be geared more toward OTC type products.

I consider Nu Finish "old school", like Liquid Glass.

What category would it fall under, AIO - polish - protectant?

I used to use nu finish before I found this site. I thought it was amazing stuff. I bought some collonite 476 ....& ......wow!!!! It was like comparing a 1984 hyundai to a 08 lexus!!!!

It's messy / dusts a lot, not so easy to use, stains trim, and was not durable for me at all. I guess you can say the higher end lines have spoiled us a bit.

Too abrasive, solvent content is too high. Doesn't last nearly as long as the modern products available to us.

I'll categorize this one with the guy who washes his car once a year - - whether it needs it or not ;) That's the target audience.

Why are we comparing Nu Finish to waxes like Collinite? Nu Finish is more of a cleaner/sealant than a wax while Collinite is purely a wax. Not comparable, IMO.

Nu Finish certainly has its uses for trim chrome and wheels. I use it for such purposes.

Horrible stuff! Constantly leaving chalky crud all over the place. Lousy durability. FK100P. Or better Ultima PGP or Zaino.

There is a loyal following that claims it does bead for a very long time and more durable. I wonder why they think this.

I can see how if you did nothing for your car except use Nu Finish once a year it would look better - just because you did something too me.
