Not too EGGciting!

Some really dumb person/s went up and down my street late Friday night and plastered about 10 cars on each side of my street with raw egg. They basically hit the same spots on each car, left front fender and left front window/mirror. They got my wife's Toyota Echo. She got up to go to work on Saturday at about 7:30 pm and woke me up. Since she was in a hurry, I just put some spray and wipe on it. It rained later that day and I think it was good for the egg, because she later called me and told me that she forgot the key to her steering wheel lock and I had to bring it to her. The rain had softened the egg and since I didn't have any chemicals with me, I asked her for the bottle of Sprite that she was carrying and I used that and some Kleenex to wipe off the rest of the egg. It call seemed to come off ok, and when she got home I finished it up with Bug Squash, degreaser FK 121 ultimate cleaner, and clay. It all came off,

But, the neighbors across the street didn't notice that their cars had been egged until about 2 days later. On Sunday, I saw my neighbor come out of his house, a young kid about 23, and I asked him if he knew that his car had been egged. He didn't. So, I helped him get it off with the same stuff that worked on my wife's car. He had never heard of clay, and after I showed him how to use it, he was still claying his WHOLE car about one hour later. He was really impressed with it. I even gave him a couple of microfibers in exchange for the......T-Shirt (!!) he was using to dry his car. I got to meet him a little and he said that his car has mechanical problems, so he doesn't really drive it. Turns out he told me a little about himself.....just lost his job, (marketing), they denied his unemployment, his mother was just diagnosed with cancer....and on top of that someone eggs his car! Well, throughout the whole thing I got to at least meet one more neighbor.

I did search on detailcity about removing egg after my wife had gone to work, and it scared the hell out of me since most people were talking about sanding it off and repainting. But thankfully, I didn't need to do that. Oh, by the way, he got all the egg off of his car and when I saw it from across the street, man was it shining!

Well, that's how I spend part of my weekend.

Yeah, it's good that you caught it on time. It was also very nice of you to reach out and help your neighbor. With all that has been going on in his life, I'm sure he really appreciate what you did for him.

Oh, and by the way, I can't stand people that don't respect another persons vehicle.

not to mention wasting good eggs

Had my truck egged a while back when my brother was here visiting my family. Got up to take him to they airport when I noticed egg on the door. S&W took the egg off but I was not as lucky as you I guess. Who ever threw the egg had some force behind them when they threw it. It splattered the paint on the side of the door. It is very noticeable to me or any other detailer but the uniformed wouldn't take a second look at it.

I am glad that you had good luck taking it off. It is good that you found a silver lining in this very dark cloud by meeting a new neighbor. I think that is a good thing!!

I had a neighbor HS girl that had her Jeep egged badly one night, she washed it off but didn't do anything more then spray cold water on the area...the egg went right threw the clear in about a week. Her mother asked if there was anything that I could do and I said it was a repaint....quite sad

The finish looked like little bubbles all over the area, almost like acid would look on the car.

OMG! I didn't realize the egg itself was so bad for the paint. I always thought the bigger issue was the shell scratching the paint when it shattered against the car.

My friend was visiting another friend the other day and some jerk keyed all the cars on the street. The mark goes all the way down the side of the car and it's DEEP. His car was pretty much the only one that the mark went down the whole side of the car. It was probably because his car was the nicest on the street. People are just jerks.
