Not much luck with the MF bonnets :o\

I started a thread the other day inquiring about MF bonnets for polish removal (thanks to all who replied, much appreciated!) I bought a 2nd PC to use strictly as a polish remover, thinking it would save me some time.

Eh, not so much.

I slipped the MF bonnet on over the stock foam pad that comes with the PC as well as an old 6" pad and had a hard time removing anything with it. I either had to press down really hard or barely touch the paint, and neither method provided easy and quick polish removal.

Am I doing something wrong? Maybe my speed setting was an issue (set at 3 or so)? Although I ended up being more tired my removing the polishes by hand, it seemed to be much quicker for me.

Maybe you either...

a) overworked your polish or

b) applied too much polish to your surface

I've never used a MF bonnet before but it should be just as easy to remove polish by hand.

Vaca, that's been my experience, too. Difficult to remove LSP's really don't come off any better with a PC and an MF bonnet. Easily removed LSP's come off *very* fast with the PC and an MF bonnet. They'll save you some work, but unfortunately not on the hard to remove stuff. I bought them to try and help me remove HD-Cleanse (which can be the very worst product in the world to remove) with no luck.

With the MF bonnets, I've found *polish* removal to be more problematic than *LSP* removal.

There's more of it, it's thicker, and you generally want to get it off before it dries completely.

FWIW, I do wonder if the larger size is causing issues; I do a lot better with polish *and LSP* removal via Cyclo than via PC. It's just so easy to overload the PC with that ~6" pad, and then it merely "jiggles".

FWIW I do use higher speeds than 3 (usually ~4.5 or so) when doing such stuff with the PC.

I wonder how the Griot's polish removal system would work  He's now selling a dedicated backing pad for the MF bonnets. I (like BigAl3) use a cutting pad, usually a Meg's 7006. Note that the Griot's system is specifically designed to buff off his machine polishes, and those aren't (IME) the most user-friendly polishes in the world either.

Denzil- I dunno if it's really *easier* so much as *different*. I started doing product removal via machine back when I had a shoulder injury; it was the only way I could do the job at all. The motions where simply quite different (and painless) compared to doing it by hand. I've since found that I simply like it better, and where LSPs are concerned I do believe I get a slightly better "burnishing effect" when I buff them off with the machines.

But the only polishes I buff off by machine are the 1Z consumer line stuff, which basically break down into cleaner-wax and can be allowed to dry without issues.

Yeah, I figured that with a MF bonnet and MF towel it wouldn't be more difficult or picky with the bonnet considering they are the same material. I guess it just comes down to the motion of polish removal. :hairpull
