I guess you don't get to see the sponsor's banners either? :(

Yeah, my Firefox blocks all these Google ads. I don't see them and I didn't even know it was an "issue" until I read this thread.

But luckily they do NOT block sponsor banners!

Yep, the ads that are being blocked are java scripts while the sponsor banners are html code. I made it hard to block them! LOL

I do not think we are saying we do not like the ads and we all understand they are part of the way we all get to enojy the site. It was just the placement of the one Google Ad is all. I like the sponsor ads banners it makes it easy for me to go to there site from DC if i need to check something out.15.00 sound much more reasonable.

Richard

I guess the whole point of the ads is that you aren't supposed to like them. That is why they are there. It is strategic placement in an effort to give members and incentive to financially support the website.

Free Membership = Tolerate The Ads
Supporting Member = No More Google Ads

I know that you understand this, I just wanted to clarify this for anyone that reads this thread in the future.

Dwayne said that sometime tomorrow members will be able to go to User CP > Paid Subscriptions and then subscribe to be a supporting member for one year that will eliminate the ads and also allow members to have more PM storage as well.

That's why I didn't like the Opera browser until I found a promotion on CNet for a FREE full version without the ads :)

What do you mean without ads? Does the Opera browser actually have adds built into it? Where? Or does the pages it load have adds?

Fuzz, I wasn't trying to find a way out of becoming a supporting member when I suggested blocking the ads, in fact I wasn't even aware that paying members don't see the ads. I love this place and have no problem at all subscribing to it.

so if we become a supporting member is all that we get out of it is no adds?? not that i am complaining, just asking.... lol
i will help out on the site just because i like it here anyway! wether it is $15 or $30. it still will be worth it.

Are you kidding that is the best part about firefox is that you can block out all avertising, and then NEVER see it again. Its the first thing I do when I find a webpage that I want to frequent. Every add on DC is blocked for me :D :D :D :D

I have to say the ads are intrusive and annoying.

Why not just up the sponsorship fee and let us support the forum by buying product...everyone wins that way. :)

The same could be said for a handful of members too but Dwayne tends to bite his tongue if you know what I mean. Just remember who went to bat for you when ol' Billy D was over here trying to get you banned for no reason.

We certainly appreciate that and we said so, but maybe working out the details of the subscription would have been a better way to go.

If you guys need money to keep the site running then that's cool, I'll probably contribute but $30 seems like a lot. Maybe bundled with discounts or maybe $10 but raise the sponsorship fees....just brainstorming here...

OK everyone. No more complaining. Are you here to talk car care or are you here to complain?

Dwayne provides a great site. I will be leaving at the end of this month to pursue other ventures so I have nothing to lose. I am going to lock this thread so we can quit beating a dead horse.

Dwayne needs to monetize Detail City better. Registration is free and there are bonuses for helping him out. He needs to make a living too. Don't be all take and no give. If you don't want to support him, then at least have the courtesy to enjoy the forums, talk about detailing and not complain in public.

Thanks!

Fuzz

Who is "we"?

The details are spelled out quite nicely in the User CP under Paid Subscriptions. $30.00 per year is less than .10 cents per day. Does that really seem like alot to you? Actually, he ended up setting it at $15. I think is way too cheap though?

Any further questions or comments should be sent in a PM to Dwayne. Thanks.
