Nose Mask Care Questions

I never leave mine on for more than a week. Every time I detail, I take it off.

1. When you take it off, be careful and gentle.

2. Vacuum the back (flannel) side

3. Wash vinyl side with warm soapy water / rinse clear water

4. Let drip dry

I leave mine off 90% of the time. I use only for road trips. If I was on the hiway every day, I'd use it every day, removing to clean once a week.

The only time I put mine on is when I am going on a road trip. I can't say that it has been on my car for more than 3 or 4 days at a time ever since I bought it. Its not something that you put on the car to enhance the apperance. Its made for protection. Just use it when you are going on a trip that puts your front end at risk of rock chips and massive bug collection. Bugs are worse than rock chips I think.

I just clean it with rubber and vinyl protectant. I haven't ever had a problem with it yet. Its a Colgan bra and I've had it for 4 years now. Its an excellent product. Getting a clear bra may be another option, but its a pricey one and not something I would put on my car unless the front end was brand new anyway. When you've already got rock chips and other problems on the front end, you don't really want to preserve those flaws forever under a clear bra. The bra I use is just as effective for what I use it for as a clear bra would be. I am rarely in a situation that rock chips are a problem anyway since all my driving is city driving. For my purposes, the bra is just for road trips.

Dude.....you can't do that to your Z. just be carefull of how you drive. Yes the clear bra is a good idea if you really need to have a bra then go with that.

I leave the cover on the car and I wipe it down with a solution of dish soap and water, and follow with a wipe down with a damp cloth. Once it all dries, I apply a protectant like 303. After it is cleaned and protected, I carefully remove it from the car and lay it out on an old sheet and vacuum the flannel side. Sometimes, if I can't do the whole routine, I'll just wipe it down with a QD spray.

If you use your cover for everyday protection, I would definitely take it off every couple of days and vacuum the flannel. Plus, if you use it daily you're going to need to use a UV protectant regularly to keep it looking good and help it last longer.

I do drive it carefully but the rock chips are still there. I have been forced to drive on the interstate within this last month and the problem are the cars and big rigs. Even though I don't drive close behind them, somehow I'm still getting these damn chips. :angry

You guys gotta remember that driving a Z is like driving a brick wall. Its a huge flat front end that just gets plastered with bugs and rocks. Having a bra is a very good idea on one of those cars. The 350Z that I take care of on a weekly basis is all torn up because of that. I tell him every week to get a bra. He has yet to listen to me.

I use a bra a lot on summer road trips and also for road trips in the winter. In the winter because of the sand/rocks I use a bug deflector on the hood all winter and add the bottom of the bra when needed.

Bras will have a tendency to rub in certain areas and if you identify these areas and protect them when the bra is on your ok. What I do is put on a few strips of black electricians tape on the spots on the attached pic. The tape has no effect on the paint/wax.

Before a road trip I wash the car, apply the tape and put the bra on. When its not on I make sure the fastening clips are washed and the sand cleaned out of them and the bra washed and the felt inside is vacuumed to remove the sand.

Sounds like a lot but over the years it has saved a lot of chips and rub marks.

That's definately one thing that I don't like about the front end. Eventually I'll be replacing it anyway when I get enough $$ for a body kit. Until then it just :angry to see the chips.

Have you been able to do anything to the chips to hide them?

I really like this idea. I looked at how it would be applied and this was a concern of mine. I'll give this a shot. Anyone else have any tips on how to prevent your paint from scratching while using a bra? Thanks.

All I've ever heard for minimizing scratches from these covers is the electrical tape. I think you just have to bite the bullet, would you rather have chips and gouges in the paint from road debris or faint scratches from the cover? I've been using mine for over a year and taken care to keep it clean and I've had great results. But, I did make the decision to purchase a silver car, I like the color and I know the heartache of owning a black car. We can be as anal as we like but when you drive your car daily, it is at the mercy of its environment and any unlucky thing that can happen on the road. Having said that, I will never go on any highway trip without my trusty front end cover and I, like yourself, was questioning whether or not using it would be a good idea.

Good luck and don't be afraid to use the cover.:xyxthumbs

P.S.

About the "getting wet" issue; as long as you can get the cover off so that the sun doesn't bake it on the car you'll be alright. I think a lot of OEM covers come with a statement on the packaging about that. When mine gets wet I get it off ASAP and hang it up to dry.
