Noob Purchase Checklist

I really want to get into machine polishing with a PC and see if I can eventually make my money back on friends and family members' cars. I'm not absolutely certain what products I'll need to cover *most* bases.

So far the shopping list is:

-PC polisher

-Finishing pads (what kind? How many?)

-Cutting pads? (What kind How many?)

-Medium pads? (What kind? How many?)

I have a bottle each of Ultimate Compound and Swirl-X, should I replace either or both of them with M105/M205?

Should I get something between? I'll also want something for leweling.

Should I keep a glaze like M85 around?

I see a lot of numbers and abbreviations thrown around, but I havent really seen much on what the bare minimum would be for someone wanting to do maybe one or two cars a week.

What are your thoughts?:thx:2thumbs:

As to the amount, a couple of each should do you if you take good care of them.

Those are both pretty popular here, but the 105/205 is almost unbeatable for the hobby detailer. You make the call. I really enjoy my 105/205.

You mean jeweling? Unless you have perfectly polished paint, you wont get much from jeweling. However, Menz Po85 and 3m ultrafina are the weapons of choice for that around here

Yep. Cant have enough producst

I think you are off to a good start. Good luck and do plenty of reading here

Yow! I agree mostly with Craig but M85 is Diamond Cut Compound (cut of 10 on the Meg's scale) not a glaze. Perhaps you meant M81 Hand Polish. If that's what you meant, if it were me, I wouldn't bother. Unless you DID mean M85 for your "leveling" step, but I think probably M105 would be better for that.

Yeah, obviously I need to review the decoder.

So a couple each of the black orange and white pads along with what I have now (UC and SwirlX[doesnt seem to do a thing])? If I need another step after 205, should I just be using a less aggressive pad or should I keep another polish around for that?

Thanks guys, this is very helpful.
