I really don't think I did anything wrong. I mean wash, clay, wash. What could happen? Doesn't claying remove whatever is on the paint/car?

Well, it sounded like things were fine at one point and then they weren't, so that's why I assumed something went wrong.



Claying won't cut off LSP unless you're pretty aggressive about it.

Ok, so what is the recommended process to prep a car for polishing from scratch? Dawn the whole car?

I've never found Dawn to be very effective for stripping wax. I'd just wash it with a stronger-than-normal shampoo and maybe use some rubbing alcohol to strip the wax (wipe it on, let it dwell, wipe it off). TOL sells a product called "Removes All" (or something like that) which works well, but I dunno if it's worth having such a specialize product on hand.



You might try just polishing through whatever's on there now, but sometimes a healthy LSP will gum up pads and leave tenacious residue that's hard to buff off.

The LSP I'm using is Z2Pro. Would that cause any gumming up of the pad(s)?

I agree with Accumulator. From your descriptions however, I can fish out the problem (hopefully). You are using SSR1 - I assume that your car's finish is in relatively good shape. The SSR1 is a mild polish and it won't remove lots of defects. Forget the wool pad, it is for heavy compounding and you have to follow that with more steps.



Most important: control the amounts you use! There is no need to use a perimeter circle for every panel! It is for pad priming. Use 3-4 pea sized drops for each subsequent panel - or 5-6 when the sun is very strong. But with just warm panels and 20°C, it will be sufficient.
