Hey everyone-

I did a search, but it brought up nothing promising. Unless someone can find me a good thread, please post it!

I have 2 clients, one with an 87 Buick and another with a 92 Buick. Both non-clearcoated. I am use to detailing clearcoated cars, being the oldest car I detailed was a 95 Saturn.

What is the best products to use and the process to go buy when detailing an older non-clear coated car that was not well taken care of?

Thanks for shaing!

I used to have a white 84 Dodge Rampage about 8-9 years ago and after a trip to NYC, it looked grey. I used old school rubbing compound and a nice wax and it looked better than the 2-3 year old cars in the apartment complex.:xyxthumbs

This is a 91 Chevy S10 with no clear coat. I used Meguiars Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner, Meguiars #7 Show Car Glaze, and Meguiars #6 Hi Tech Yellow Wax. Sorry I dont have a clear or close up pic.

This is a few months later with S100 SEC and S100 Carnauba.

With non clear coat finishes, youll get a lot of paint comming off onto the pad but its normal. Other than that, the other procedures are the same.

First ..do you know the colors of these vehicles...do they have metal flake in the paint...these are things most people don't even consider when doing older vehicles...the treatment and process can be totally different...87...that was also not agreat year for paint either...

The main thing with non clearcoated vehicles is making sure you remove all the oxidation or the wax will streak. Using a glaze before waxing also helps because it adds more oils to the paint.

When I first started, about 10-15% of the vehicles I detailed didn't have clearcoats, and those 1st gen Explorers were the worst to deal with.

This is a before and after of a red Explorer that was obviously faded. I started with Meguiars Dual Action Cleaner Polish, followed with Swirl Free Polish, Hand Polish and #26. Took about 3 hours to work the paint, so if either car is faded, expect to spend a similar amount of time to get rid of all the oxidation.

Again, the main objective is to completely remove the oxidation. You will know if you didn't because the wax will leave dark streaks.

After cleaning use a glaze like I. H. G. Mothers S and G or Meg. # 7 that will make the color come alive . Some non-clear coat colors have more dept than clear coats
