No Place to Detail...Help

I need to wash and detail my car but don't have a place to do it due to my apartment complex. I have a 10x10 EX UP that I sometimes use at my in-laws house but I always seem to be out in the sun and can't ever get the surface to cool down. Their garage is not an option. Can you guys recommend something?

I was thinking about constructing a larger tent out of PVC pipe and shade cloth from a nursery supply store. Would this work or am I destined to work in the sun?

Do you mean a tent fully enclosing the car or some sort of widespan awning ? Feels like the cost could be far more than renting a slot at a local garage once a week or two ???

I'm in Central Texas. I was looking for something that could be assembled and disassembled as needed preferably more of a tent than awning. The PepBoys Canopy might be the ticket.

I don't know how those Pep Boys canopies would stay up unless you put the poles into the ground. They look too flimsy to just perch on the pavement plus any wind would likely blow them over. I guess you could devise a system with cement blocks, etc. to get one to stay upright.

Please let us know what you choose to do. I'd love to find something like this that works also. It's gotta be tough in an apartment though. I used to live in a condo and the neighbors were real buttholes who always had something negative to say about my detailing. I can't even imaging putting up a canopy like that in a place like that. I sure hope you've got it better my friend.

Well I dunno... But regarding the heat (I experienced it at Amarillo, Dallas and Houston) which I found unreal, I'd definitely prefer a garage with air conditioning instead of a tent whatsoever.

Also, you' d avoid dusty winds and alike contaminants... Well it's up to you... I mean renting a slot in the local DIY garage here is like 5 bucks for 4 hours. So it' s like 20 bucks a month. And you always have that expert supervision and emergencey assistance whenever you botch the job from the technicians...

Wel just a suggestion; 80 something bucks may sound better but you never have the benefit of those I told above...

Best on your decision...

Most basic solution would be to do your work early in the morning or later in the evening, when it's not so hot. Also, look at getting some "sun friendly" products and work section by section (to address the sudden dust storms.).

I don't know of any DIY garges in this area where you can rent space? Does anyone have any experience with these in this area?
