Some of you younger guys may not realize that No. 7 was originally a DuPont product, and kind of the de facto go-to polishing product (along with the DuPont rubbing compound if it was really bad) for a long time back in the single-stage days. I have a can that looks like yours but is probably at least 15 years old, I'm sure I haven't used it since I got rid of my last SS car in '99, so I don't know if it's different now or what. Does it say it is CC safe?

Heh heh, I almost didn't even notice that it no longer says "Dupont" on the can...

Never tried the Clearcoat Polishing stuff, but I too used the first product back in the day (mid-'80s or so) on single stage. NO WAY would I use that on anything today, there are much better choices. Wouldn't surprise me if it left not-so-micro marring that you'd have a terrible time correcting; it's aggressive stuff, as in nasty-aggressive.

If I had to take a wild guess, the second product will also leave micromarring and will be far more aggressive than SSR1. But I'm just guessing (feel lucky? I'd never try it myself).

LOL, 80's? The original product goes back to the 60's if not earlier, IIRC someone had some really old cans of it on SCG perhaps...I think it was Superior "Fine". My can, which I believe to be from about 15 years ago, looks like the picture, but says on the back something about being the "original Dupont formula" and was distributed by Borden (as in Borden Foods; are they still around?)

Rocks and liquid in a bottle.

Try their chrome polish if you liked marred chrome.

The stuff is effective but far too nasty for personal vehicles.

#7 polish came out in 1924 to be used on the then new lacquer paint. It was often used as a pretreatment for Simonize Paste Wax. It did a fantastic job cleaning up badly oxidized paint. Ive heard that they still make it in a different bottle, and that its good for CC paint. I would be carefull if id try it. If you try it let us know how it works.

Oh wow! Where did you find that stuff?

I used to love using du pont #7 back in the day. It worked wonders for bringing back oxidized single stage paint but was pretty aggressive. I used to use NU FINISH over it with incredible results on single stage reds.
