Nissan Frontier Owners

How do you like your truck? What are your likes and dislikes?

I am torn between a Frontier and Tacoma so I alreayd asked this reguarding the Tacoma so now it is the Nissan's turn. LOL

Dang. I wish there were some responses because these two will be on the short list for next time I buy a truck.

I don't have one but I have observed pretty poor paint quality. Tons of orange peel to the point on appearing dull.

I'd be watching this thread too, they're on my short list as well.

One thing I don't like is the fender wells on the Frontier with the bulging plastic and rivets, not a clean look in my eyes.

(not my pictures)

They no longer sport the lame plastic rivet look. Nissan moved the Pathfinder and Frontier into a more modern look of incorporating the fender bulge into the body panel. It looks much more finished and presentable.

Yeah, the new ones looks much more classy in my eyes. I am going to attempt to test drive one tonight.

My wife got an X-Terra last year---same basic vehicle as the Frontier.

VERY impressed with the power....this thing is NEVER at a loss for torque.

Passenger leg room isn't all I could hope for (I'm 6'-2") ,

but who the hell buys a vehicle to keep passengers happy ?

My brother-in-law , a die-hard Ford man and committed foreign car basher,

was so impressed with it , he traded in his Explorer for an X-Terra.

After a year with it , my wife and I are both still VERY happy with it.

So you know , hers is a 6-speed manual....not sure what you'll get with an auto.

Hope this was helpful.......

Thanks! Funny you said that because for some dumb reason I asked my cousin for advice who works at Ford and drives a huge F350 what he recommends in the small truck lineup and he actually recommended the Nissan and Toyota. And this is a guy that makes fun of me for driving "imports"! LOL

I drive a Ford Ranger (don't ask)....it's a bit more comfortable than the Nissan , but NOT EVEN CLOSE

in terms of performance.

Really? Do you mean the Nissan 4 banger or the 6? I really want a 4 cylinder and low payments but dang it does the Nismo edition look sweet.

I would only get a 4 cylinder truck if you are getting a regular cab 4x2 and never plan on hauling much or doing towing of any kind. The Nissan 6 cylinder engines are very highly regarded, and I think anything less in a truck would be a disappointment. Just my .02.

Talkin' bout the 6.

Don't know how the Nissan 4 performs. I can tell you that getting a Ford 4

moving with any respectable speed is like trying to roll a square boulder up

the side of a mountain. You can forget highway merging.

(Ask me how I know , go ahead). The 3 liter 6 in my Ranger isn't much better.

A buddy of mine had a Tacoma a few years ago and he loved it.

4 cyl. 4x4 with very impressive power and acceleration.

Toyota really gets a lot out of 4 cyclinders.

Just my thoughts......

P.S. --- all vehicles mentioned here are manuals...not sure what you're after.

A 4x2 is fine if you live in the South....like , say,...oh , I don't know....TEXAS. :chuckle:

(jk). 4x2 won't cut it in the Northern snow...especially Michigan !!!

Ok, I went to test drive the only Frontier they had and it would not start. The battery was dead enough where it would light up the gauges but not turn the truck over. Anyway, the truck was a 2006 Frontier 4X4 with the V6 automatic. Beautiful truck. They offered me crap for my trade in, which I knew. I was really thinking of of going for this lease if I could sell my ride outright but then I went over my parents and a friend of the family is selling their full size Chevy/GMC. The truck is well taken care of and in great condition. Only problem is it is a regular cab. BUT it is a used truck so I won't feel like I have to baby it to death when hauling stuff and it is only 1/5 the price of a new truck.

Decisions!

That's the best way to woo customers. You should've said "hey, how about you up my trade-in value a few thousand and we'll forget this episode ever happened?" LOL

I actually felt bad for the dealer because it would not start. LOL But I think I might try and grab this 1995 GMC 1500 standard cab, short bed, 350ci, truck.

I drive a 4 banger 2WD Frontier (not new, 1998). For a 4 banger, it really gets up and goes. They change the gearing so that you end up in the power band, it hurts mpg but helps with making a 150HP 4 cylinder pull a truck (and Ive overloaded the bed before and not had much problem).

Neighbor of mine has a new Frontier (2005)....loves the truck but regrets the V6. He gets "bad" mpg he says, maybe 16-17 overall (some highway some city). My truck doesnt do much better because of the gearing, maybe 18-19 mpg (mostly city). Id buy a new Frontier in a second, but I dont like the smaller bed. I would consider the Tacoma my first choice because I can get a king (extended) cab with a longbed, and possibly even a crew cab with a long bed.

I love my truck though.........reliable, always does what I ask it to, etc. Its even my primary vehicle in the snow (I dunno, for some reason I feel safer using RWD in the snow than FWD....and its more fun!).

I recently sold my '95 GMC Sierra SLE, ext. cab, short bed. Most reliable and best vehicle I ever owned. Bought it used with about 30K miles on it. Great thing about those trucks is parts are readily available everywhere, and it is SO easy to do most all of the work yourself if you have basic car repair knowledge. I saved a bundle doing stuff like alternator, water pump, etc. over the years. Still trying to remember why I sold this truck. Anyway, if you can get a good deal those are really reliable vehicles. There is something to be said for warranty and having a brand new car though. Good luck on your choice.
