Nissan alarm help!

I recently had a car alarm installed on my '04 Pathfinder. It's a Hornet (DEI) that upgrades the OEM keyless entry. Since it was installed I blew out 2 dimmer switches that control the dash lights in a amtter of 3 weeks. Upon inspection it looks like they wired the wire for the parking lights flash straight to the wire coming out of the dimmer switch. When I took the car back to them and told them about my dilemma and pointed out how they wired it, they rewired it straight to one of the parking lights. Could this have been the problem? It's only been a day so far.

Possibly. If I'm reading your post right, they wired a source wire (12v?) to the wrong side of a relay (switch side). By going straight to the parking light, they bypass the switch for the alarm source wire to the light. Switches usually are low voltage, only sending a small voltage signal to a relay to open a larger source voltage to the accessory.

If I'm not reading your post right, disregard the above.....

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Dave. Yes you read my post correctly. So far it seems to be holding up. I guess I just should've let the delaer do it.

Install is everything.

Even an "affordable"/low-end alarm will work more reliably than the best alarm whose poorly installed.

Sounds like they took a shortcut- glad to hear they fixed it for you.
