Ninja 400 extractor at pawn shop

I came across a pretty well used Ninja while driving by a local pawn shop. I stopped by and the clerk had no idea he had it when I questioned him about it. He then went on the computer to get a price (I think he tried to google it) but could not come up with one. He asked me if I knew what it was worth and I said no (wink wink). He then said $250 with a "questionable" expression on his face. These extractors are over $1000 online. Like I said its pretty well used and I did not see the attachements (hose etc). I think if I offer him $150 he will take it... What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for your input. Any idea how I nwould test it while there???

tell him: "mmmmm it looks like its been around the block, Ill give you $75"

Dont be afraid to lowball. Since he doesnt know the actual retail price you might get lucky.

One must assume that the unit is in bad shape, but maybe not.

We just overhauled/rebuilt 2 Century 400 SENSEI's, little brother to the Ninja.

The learning curve is sorta steep, but if you are handy you can completely rebuild the Ninja yourself. All the parts are available online - vac motor is about $140, then you'll need the Shurflo pump rebuilt (they make a kit - cheap), and the in line heater probably just needs to be disassembled and cleaned...

Then you'll need hoses and an upholstery tool. I would think you could have it functional and productive for ~$400 and about 6-8 hours labor.

Great find. Good Luck!

Frank....

Do the math, figure out how much repair costs you're going to put into it, are you mechanically inclined & how much hoses and wands, etc will run you.

Simple detailer upholstery wand runs about $100 .

good luck

Well, I like my 400 so I'm inclined to say "get it". As noted, it's not the most complicated machine and there are plenty of places that'll work on 'em if you don't want to DIY it.

But I'd plug it in (both cords), turn on both vacuum switches, the pump switch, and the heater switch so see if everything at least powers up (might be able to bargain a bit if something doesn't work). Heh heh, don't be surprised if you blow a fuse in the pawnshop as it draws a lot of amps with everything on ;)

Guys - thanks for the advice... I went back today and tested the unit. The pump and the vac works great. The vac suction is strong on this thing. Anyway I told the guy to take down my number and if he was interested I would offer 75 bucks to take it off his hands. He shook his head no so I started to walk away. He yells how 'bout 100. So I picked it up. Turns out the hoses from my Durmaid unit will work so no need to buy attachments. Heading to the garage to clean her up... Thanks again... Yahoo!

Freank001- Great buy!

So your hoses fit the shampoo feedline's QD and everything? Wow, this really *did* work out great for you.

i was going to say...what the heck are you doing on here asking what you should offer...in the time you took, someone could have jumped on it and "stole" it before you could offer a $ amount...sometimes I think people rely on the opinions of others too much...I would have just bought it on the spot....

I might have paid $250 if I didn't post here for some "opinions". I was also very nervous because I was not sure about the machine, reliability, and repairs. Thanks to Jimmy Buffit and the rest of the "opinions" of others I felt more comfortable asking to pay a lower price, and if it did not operate 100% at least I got some feed back (opinions) that I could work on the unit my self and not have to pay to refurb a well used unit for a lot of $$$. As it currently sits, it appears that the pump works intermitently but again I feel comfortable working on the unit and either will replace or rebuild. Thanks again for everyone's information.

See ya Franco

makes me want to go look in the pawn shops around here for some extractors, maybe I could hook it up real cheap! great find frank

Same here, but I've never had any luck finding a good deal at a pawn shop...

Does it cut out even when there's plenty of water/solution in the tank?

Even if it does need a pump, you got a great deal on it.
