News from Petroferm/Michelin on Product Distributor

Yes, it would be great if you completed the next two phases of the big test:up

If you wanted to expand upon it, going even further would include certain types/origins of cars i.e. SUVs, trucks and the infamous heavy brake dust of German cars.

Bill,

I was thinking about trying it on a BMW 325i that I applied Poorboys Wheel Sealant to. Probably best to test on front wheels only or rear wheels only so the usage factor is the same...

It's on! I can hear the wheels of the bandwagon comming 'round the corner ;) ......simmer down, just jokin' fellas.

FWIW, I heard on the radio today that Autozone is having a car care sale going on (at least here in NJ)

That wheel protectant looks like an interesting product out of the three new wheel / tire items.

Looks like you got your German candidate :up

[BHmmm, I thought EBP's test was actual testing.

By actual testing you need controls to compare to. I can put ANY wax/sealant on my hood, leave my trunk unwaxed and say, "I am amazed how much better my hood stayed cleaned and how much easier it was to clean than the trunk." All it proves is that having a wax/sealant applied is better thasn not having anything applied at all. That is all EBPCivics's "testing" proved.

EBPCivics own comments in that thread:

"FWIW, guys I don't think this product was designed to be real durable, more of a product to be applied with a weekly wash. I don't know for sure, but I plan to keep using AIO/#20(maybe #21 now that I have that) as a "base" bi-monthly, then using the MBDR weekly."

If that is the case, I am sure any QD or wax/sealant applied on a weekly basis will be just as effective.

RIC, I'm going to be testing the beading/sheeting ability of this new wax someone sent me. I'll apply it to half of a dawn-washed hood and the other half of the hood will have absolutely nothing at all!

I'll be doing the test next week, but then again, I already know the waxed side will be shinier, slicker and bead water while the other half will not.

I guess for some people that's enough to call this new wax 'great'! :D

Hehe, j/p! The stuff seems promising, but I totally see RIC's point. This spray could very well be the greatest new product on the face of Autopia, but it takes a lot more than one well-photographed test to even begin to call anything great. That test, while very well done and enjoyable to read, basically only established that it helps repel dust...not that it repels dust better than my current favorite rims product E1 WAUD.

"I am sure any QD or wax/sealant applied on a weekly basis will be just as effective."

I don't think you are giving enough credit to Michelin's chemical engineers Petroferm. There are things they could do that repel brake dust that would be quite different from a QD. They may have added chemicals that specifically repel brake dust, perhaps magentically.

SilverLexus...you must have stock in Michelin. I don't see you doing any testing of it...all I see you doing is going around claiming how great it is... And now you are using conjecture about what the Michelin Engineers may have done to make the product.

I haven't tested it or tried it.

This Michelin Brake dust repellant may be great or may not be better than other QDs/waxes/sealants...I am reserving judgement on it until more thorough testing is done and comparisons are made with other products used similarly.

You are the one who labeled this product as "great" based on EBP's review.

RIC,

Relax. I am testing it once my order arrives. I have seen EBP's other reviews and he seems to know what he is doing so I trust his testing.

I also felt you did EBP enough credit given his testing, good writeup and review. He had sprayed one wheel and left another unsprayed. That seems fine to me in terms of isolating that product's performance. It seemed to have made a difference.

You are probably right that more people should review it and pass along their results and I will contribute soon.

I just used my tire shine last week. I'm a bit dissapointed. It went on real thin and watery like Z16. Which is my favorite. So I was excited when I was misting it on. The spray head on the bottle is quite nice, it mists perfectly allowing minimal product to be emitted. I misted up the tires very well and then wipped with EO wipes. The product covered nicely. It doesn't have much of a shine to it. I'd say less than Z16. Its pretty matte. It just looked like clean tires, it didn't have a "dressed" look to it. I like a satin look. But some tires look better than others so I'llll try a different car next time as well. Now I only did one application, so maybe two would look better. It covered pretty evenly but not like Z16. I'm going to try it again after the rain here and take another look at it. Maybe apply two coats. As far as duribility goes, It lasted abot 10 days, we havn't had any rain but it did fade slightly. I wouldn't say that what I observed is very conclusive, just a first time quick observation.
