Newly painted roof and fender

I just got my car back today from having the roof and fender sanded down and repainted with factory paint. Professional shop did a fantastic job and now I want to keep it that way. They said wait a week then wax it. They put a clear coat but they cant wax it right away. Perfect timing for a black friday sale at autogeek. What products should I use? I have some cheap waxes from autozone but I want a good quality wax for the first time. I'm still learning about sealants and polishes. I dont use any at this point, correct? Just a good wax for now?

Opinions vary on this, and I don't intend to argue the topic, but AFAIK all the paint manufacturers still recommend waiting at least 90 days before waxing. The idea is that the paint needs to cure/outgas so it can attain its maximum potential hardness and that some LSPs can interfere with that.



I use Meguiar's M05 New Car Glaze or 3M Imperial Hand Glaze during that wait period, applying after every wash. Been doing this since the '70s and it works as well on today's paint as it did back then. *NEVER* had any issues at all and I plan to keep it that way.



I hear that Ford has approved OCW for use on "post-production paintwork" so maybe that's worth considering if you really want to "wax" it.



Others say to just go ahead and use your regular LSP, but I prefer to err on the side of caution. In fact, I *just* waxed the repainted parts on my wife's A8 after about 100 days, and I'm only one month into the wait period on the repainted parts of the Tahoe.



Hey, were's David Fermani?!? He and I good-naturedly :argue this one every time it comes up.
 
I agree with Accumulator. Resist messing with the paint for a while. A good option would be to use a spray wax like OCW. Maybe then move onto something like Blackfire Wet Diamond.
 
Thanks both for the info. I got a few bottles of the new car glaze to last me the next few months and a bottle of the ocw spray wax for probably after the winter.

The spray wax sounds promising. This darn car has vents and plastic all over so I spend more time taping it off then actually waxing. A spray on wax that actually wont turn plastic white is amazing.

For when the fresh paint is cured: I try to just LSP trim like that rather than struggling to avoid it. LSPs like Collinite 845, Souveran, and KSG are trim-friendly IME.

In all seriousness, I'd recommend using either Zaino Z2/Z5 or any of the Optimum products suchs as Opti-Coat/Opti-Seal/Car-Wax. :tape:
