Newbies rejoice... (+ a pad cleaning question)

I just wanted to let all you newbies (myself included) know that the whole detailing procedure isn't so bad... i.e. don't knock yourself out worrying about proper technique and what products to use, because with a PC, some bads, and pretty much any OTC product, it's just about impossible to screw anything up (at least in my experience).

I spent 3 hours last night detailing my WRX. Since I'm selling it shortly, I wanted to practice before the new car shows up, and rather than use my Zaino products, I went and bought the Meguiars 3-step (cleaner, polish, wax) from AutoZone.

I applied the clearer with an orange pad. It took out all the swirls, didn't really have much affect on deeper scratches, but that's all I was looking for. I then polished (although I used some Pinnacle I had lying around... speaking of which, I could NOT get this stuff to dry. I polished forever and kept using less and less product, and it still wouldn't dry. But anyway...) with a white polishing pad.

Finally, I applied an ultra-thin coat of wax with a finishing pad. End result? Awesome! The car was only three years old, and I didn't think it was that bad, but it looks great now! (I'll try and post some pics later on).

So the moral of the story is, PC + a few pads + some OTC product = big improvement and you can't screw it up. So don't fret ;)

Now my question: I washed my pads in the washing machine, but they still have some big "spots" on them where the product sank in. Is it ok to re-use them like this? Or should I keep washing?

You could soak them overnight and then put in washing machine.
you could soak and scrubb them to losen up debri.
personally I soak in a bucket with snappy pack for few hours then dump everything into washm, achine with charlies soap and wash on gentle and they come out great.
