This might sound like a silly question to the experienced Autopian, but How can I tell if my chrome rims are clearcoated? I always thought that chrome wheels were just plated. I never know that sometimes a clear was applied on top. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could take some metal polish and apply it to an inconspicuous area and if it turns black then its not clearcoated. There may be a better method, though.

that will not work on chrome!





I don't see why any chrome would be cc

as chrome is much harder that paint
 
I was wondering because I was looking at a Mothers wheel polishing kit. It had different products for chrome and clearcoated chrome. I don't want to use the wrong polish and tear up the clear.
