Newbie question for Midwest detailers

Will soon be taking delivery of a pewter/ash MB E500 (mid-life crisis car). Reading information here has inspired me to try some detailing myself with a Zaino regimen - wheels immediately and rest of car to soon follow.

My question is: It appears that multiple Zaino coats will get me through the worst Chicago winter weather, but what do I do about washing? Washing at home is not an option. The dealer offers free Sat washes but I don't know method so I am leery. I guess alternative is to wash at a "DIY" place and tried to get the car dry before the excess water freezes? Is there a way to wash undercarriage?

Thanks for any input! I really want to do this.

Winter is a pain in the finish...

Washing in the winter is the worst thing I do to my cars and every spring its swirle mark removal time.

Unless your going to take it to a detailer ea. week its either going to be dirty or get swirl marks.

I do the self wash bays w/cal. water blade, touchless washes(which dont get a car clean) and sometimes the hated brush type auto washes.

The Zaino does seem to last thru a MI winter and spring cleanup is one days worth of work. So it could be worse.

Good luck & have fun w/the new car. Dont let it drive you.

Welcome :wavey

That is going to be one nice car. Observe a Saturday wash day at the dealership. Check out their methods. Possibly, speak to the person in charge and find out if they'll allow you to bring you own towels. Then bag your towels when they're done and take them home to wash 'em.
