Newbie question about PC - will this do?

Hello Folks,

Just registered and I have some newbie question(s). Bear me since I haven't ever done any machine polishing.

I've read about rotary and dual-action machines but since the terminology is little difficult to translate I have to ask...

I have this Bosch grinding/polishing machine at garage for woodwork and was wondering if it's usable for machine polishing or TOTALLY out of line?

It's oscillating with 2mm oscillating-offset, 15.000-24.000 oscilations per minute. 270W

125mm plate with velcro-type grip. I saw some polishing pads for it but dunno for what they are.

I plan to polish little swirl-marks / spider-web from my black TT with Autoglym Paint Renovator which I happen to have in garage. then continue with Super Resin Polish and Extra Gloss. (And of course _start_ with the clay). I was going to do it by hand but then read so much about machine polishing and started to wonder maybe that Bosch-machine could be usable since it's not rotary. Then again the speed seems way out of line for car paint - am I correct?

Thanks and greetings from PolarBear-land !

I wouldn't recommend using that, last summer I went to a hardware store called Biltema and they had a polisher much like the Cyclo for pretty cheap, you should check that out.

Welcome to Autopia! I bet Polar Bear-Land is right, it gets cold there, huh?

There are plenty of machines that'll do what the PC does (and some will probably do it better), but I don't know if yours is one of them. What concerns me is the speed...sounds very fast even at the lowest setting compared to the PC's upper limit of ~6,000 orbits-per-minute.

As I missing something here: the Bosch is rated at oscillations per minute and the PC is rated at orbits per minute  I don't want to jump to a conclusion without knowing what I'm talking about. Are "oscillations" and "orbits" the same in this context?

I have that Bosch PEX400AE, should be fine. Although i have only tried it in Audi's rock-solid clearcoat with Megs W-8006 pad and #83.
