newbie otc stuff

Applying waxes by hand may be rewarding, but doing hand polishing is most definitely not. Polishing by hand simply can't achieve the necessary speed and heat needed to remove swirls and marring.

For the leather care, as everyone has recommended, Lexol is a highly regarded product that can be bought locally.

As for the waxes, I don't think NXT and Gold Class offer good protection. For about the same price ($14.50 online including shipping) you can get some Collinite, which will last much longer. I mean, $14.50 is similar to the amount you would be spending on the Gold Class Wax, so I think it's a good price. If you're interested, take a look at mactecllc.com.

i went to a couple of different stores today; your right, slim pickings. if i do break down and order some stuff online which collinite do you recommend? there are like five different ones and all look the same to me. what is the collinite leather wax? is that like a conditioner/cleaner?

I haven't used the Collinite leather wax before, so I can't comment on it.

For the wax, you can use the liquid version 845 or the paste version 476S/885 (exactly the same). Those two are the most often used Collinite waxes on this forum. I personally use 476S/885 because it has slightly more durability than 845. 845 can last around 5 months and still retain water beading. 476S, add a month more or so. Anyhow, both waxes will provide the most durability of many carnauba waxes.

Yes, but also $5.99 shipping. On mactecllc.com, the 476S is $14.50 including shipping. If you buy only Collinite, mactec is a better choice. If you plan on buying other products, use autogeek for a lower price.

Very True. I bought my Collinite from mactec, but if you have no willpower like I do, it's hard to say no to 20% off...if only they had ONR in stock or would let you at least order it for the discount..I'd have picked up some Natty's Blue too

Like you said, I have no willpower either :) This afternoon I made a ~$50 purchase consisting of backing plate, orange/white/gray Lake Country CCS pads, and Duragloss Aquawax. I'm considering it a Christmas/New Years gift :) Looking forward to get it soon!

For OTC products that are good your choices are Turtle Platinum, Mothers FX, Meguiars NXT and Eagle One Nano At Car Quest you can find Duragloss products,if they dont have it they can order it. Collinite can be found in some stores that sell boat supplies. Good choices for Duragloss is #111 and #105, and Aquawax is always nice to have. For Collinite #845 is the stuff.

I agree--those are pretty much the products I'd be looking at if I restricted myself to OTC and maybe also Mothers Reflections.

yeah, why not try and pick up some Collinite 845 locally? I got mine from advanced auto parts (in the boat section). I'm on the east coast. If you're on the west coast, I believe you can get it from kragen auto parts. It was 12 bucks or so after tax.

Not sure what some people have against OTC products. Some that I love: DG 105, Aquawax, Mothers FX and Mothers Reflections, Mothers Power Polish, Collinite 845, s100, Megs #26 to name a few. I have been able to find these at local Autoparts stores.

I also like to seal and wax by hand, but when I need to polish scratches I break out the PC:waxing:

ive seen s100 in person, wow that stuff looks nice, does it last long? is it the same as ps140?

i ended up with eagle one nanowax spray as my wax, meguiars aloe cleaner and conditioner, and meguiars natural protectant.

s100 is the same as ps21, I can't comment much on durability because I tend to use it over a sealant and/or reapply in about a month. I also tend to play around with different products so there is always something different on the paint:chuckle:
