Here's the deal, boys and girls.

03 F150 - black. Very shiny - has Zaino and a bunch of scratches that can only be seen if I shine a 500 watt light on it (you cannot feel them with a fingernail). Also has some swirls that can be seen in the bright sunlight.

I have a PC7424, CMA orange pads, Menzerna IP and FP. I also have 3M PII FCRC - and some MCRC and some SMR for dark paint. Wiping stuff off with MF towels.

I can get the swirlies out with the IP or the FCRC - no problem. The FP removes any haze just fine. I cannot make the straight line scratches go away, and whats worse, I've seen the MF towels add new ones - even if I try to wipe gently! I cannot believe the paint is that soft, the red honda doesn't have the scratches and it's a year older. Cannot figure where I'm going wrong. I want this thing mirror-like under the bright light.

How many times do I need to polish these suckers with the IP? Should I try DACP? I've tried more polish, less polish, polish it till it's almost all gone, etc. Do I simply need to be more patient and work it more times?

Assuming I ever get the paint the way I want it, I need to know what polymer I should put on it that I can top with Souveran so it it both protected and has that deep black glow.

HELP!

Thanks.

Thanks, Regal.

The microfibers I'm using came from CMA, so I'm pretty sure they're quality :D . I probably had something on the surface of the paint. It is simply amazing to me how much crap settles on the hood in just a few minutes.

I will keep working the IP, but I will also try to lighten up about having every little micro scratch gone - but it's hard when I see the finishes on some of the vehicles in here :bow

Thanks again!

So you're saying that the Comet and steel wool are a bad thing?

They sure do take the old wax off in a hurry....

Looked at your gallery - very nice. I noticed that the carpet pics were of a Honda Odyssey - yours? (I have one as well) What did you use to get the carpet looking that nice?

I have an 03 BLACK flairside Ranger Edge and agree with the general difficulty in dealing with back paint or is that black pain ooops it's black paint, anyway........ I don't believe the paint's the problem ...it's the 500 watt halogens....unless you plan to put this truck in a movie my advice would be to roll the truck out in the sun and if it looks good, it is good.

Before I started working out on my project I read DavidB's article on 'showcar finish'...it was invaluable !

After clay he suggested using Pinnacle Paint Cleaner, I used P21S GEPC instead followed by 3M IHG then Klasse then Blitz or Sov carnuba. Although I had the AIO and SG I liked what I saw so much I initially went directly to the Blitz after the IHG. Later on I put P21S over the Blitz which I personally did not like as much as the Blitz but found the P21S so much easier to keep clean and reapply I've settled in on tha combo.

Good luck with your black Ford.......
