My family just purchased a 2005 BMW Z4, It is black. I dont currentally have pictures. But www.Bmwusa.com has pictures of different Z4 but i dont think the black one. Ours has the tan top. First what is the best top cleaner that is safe for BMW, and what is the waterproofer that is put on it. I have put one layer of Meguires Gold Class on the paint. The car has some light swirls from the dealer but nothing too bad. My question it what is the best wax for this color paint. This car shows every piece of dirt but it is cleaned often so its not much of a problem. Should i start new. Saturday with, dawn bath, then get the swirls out and put a couple of coat of wax on. What do yall think.

Hello congrats on the car

As far as tops i have no idea. I think we all agree that it isnt the wax you put on a car but the prep work that you put into it. I would leave the dawn in the kitchen and get a good shampoo. You can get an OTC shampoo like NXT or GC that woudl work fine for you. I would clay the care then and re wash or clay while you wash. If you have light swirls go for a light polish. You can find those polishes from any sponsers. Poorboys seem to be a good line that are easy to work with. As far as wax you can go with any carnauba really. There are many waxes that can give you different looks. Nattys, S100, P21S, and souveran would all give you a good look with proper prep. As would any wax for that matter.

I was going to use the dawn before claying to take off any wax that is already on the car from before. then use SSR1 on the body after i dry it. I have a car shampoo that i use reguarly but just use the dawn the restart the process. Also will waxing the wheels help with the protection and over all looks.

Hey Willbjew,

Congrats on a fine purchase indeed!! You also picked a killer color combo as well. As for the Dawn wash, some like, some don't. Your clay will still be effective w/o the Dawn as it is new, and anything remaining will be removed by your polish.

Yes, waxing the wheels will help, however, since heat is transfered through them, it often melts your protection off rather quickly. I would suggest a carnuaba/polymer blend or a sealant for added durability. Either way, your wheels will look better afterwards.

SWEETT!!

Did you get the metallic or the straight Black? What engine did you get the 2.5 or the 3.0?

I use 303 for fabric on my Z3 top. There is a kit for cleaning and a fabric protector. Works well. For everyday cleaning, I vacuum my top using a soft bristle brush attachment. But you're tan probably will not show lint and hair like my black top. :bigups on the color choice! Raggtop is also a highly respected brand of fabric top cleaner and protector. You'll probably see both 303 and Raggtop where ever you see one. PAC and Autogeek, Detail City sponsers have them.

I believe it is just Jet Black, but i do have the 3.0 engine. Although the color does show every bit of dirt it is a awesome looking car in the day light with the top down... and fast also. :shift. I just got done with a Wash and wheel detail. Washing the car isnt bad at all, but the wheels are insane. I bought a wheel cleaner to try but it was a total dud. It didnt do anyting. But I love the car. Havnt decided on a good wax yet, i just am going to wait till i can try a few side by side. About the top. I have a cleaner but i need something to "waterproof" it. I am not sure if i feel confortable trying anything other than BMW's stuff. but there kits seem kinda over priced but after spending that much on the car i need to fork up the money for the care of it

Nice ride. The BMW 3.0 I6 is one of the best 6 cylinders ever made.

Be careful with those wheels. If I were you I'd stick to the P21S wheel cleaner, which is also sold as BMW at the dealer. Maybe a little EO A2Z no more than once a month.

The brake dust will be a problem. BMW OEM brakes are soft and put out lots of dust.
