New York International Auto Show 2008

Clean Dean

Keep it clean !!!
I spent about 4 hours today at the New York international Auto Show. I was very impressed with some of the concept cars as well as some of the new models. The BMW CS was my favorite concept. The door handles are shaved and are placed on top of the window trim making them almost completely invisible. The Dodge Challenger looked awesome !!! Here is a link to a slide show of todays experience:

Enjoy !!!

I'll be going tomorrow to the show. Can't wait to see the Porsche GT2 up close.

I'll be the one with a Porsche leather jacket and a Farnbacher Loles/ Porsche black shirt walking around the Porsche display and a few others.

Did you guys see the black on the Maybach? Damn that's one nice black finish!

Those that are going, enjoy the cars!!

I was like a kid in a candy store. I went with a few friends who are car nuts, but not professional detailers. They spent some time inside some of the floor models that have been out a while, while I just focused on the stuff I haven't seen yet. Spent 4 hours drooling !!!

Nice show. enjoy !!!

You know I'll have a good time. Problem is...Am I going to make a deal on something? ;)

While the wife shops in the stores in midtown... Gee you think I should?:secret

I was disapointed in the show this year. Not many great exotic exhibits. Ferrari only had one car! Lamo had a few, but unreachable.

Porsche only had the GT2 on the turntable. They had a nice white C4S with Aerokit, white, painted back seats, painted center console, painted door trim etc etc. A few Caymens, and special edition Boxter.

Second level was full of the vendors that hack everything from scale car models to "Super Chamois" and waxes/sealants.

However, the slide show is great...Save you money and watch the slide show!

Deanski,

I could see your point about unreachable. The Bentley's, Rolls, and Lambos were set back like priceless diamonds, and the Saleen F 150 was placed back about 25 feet and also unreachable. It was kind of like looking at a picture.

Luckily a customer of mine is picking up the Saleen truck, and I will be able to see & drive it soon.

You guys are braver than I am. My days of going to the NY Auto Show are over. It is so damn crowded that it makes me crazy. In the old days I used to take a day off from work and go in the middle of the week with my father when the show opened up. It would be EMPTY! Now, forget it.

Thanks for the pics Dean.

My boss was at the Auto Show with his best friend who bought three, yes three Bentley convertibles. So he got the "VIP" treatment and was able to go and sit in the car and look at them. My boss went up there with him and said he felt so uncomfortable because hundreds of people were gawking at them from behind ropes. He said it was a serious case of the "have" and the "have not."

Keeping the cars roped off is kind of silly to me. I don't get too excited about any car I see on the road everyday. Thats why I love the concept cars at these shows.

One for him, one for his wife and one for the vacation home.

Can you believe (I'm sure you can) that he takes them to an assembly line hand car wash place. He purchased the "unlimited" package for thousands of dollars so he can take them there to be "washed" as many times as he wants.

My boss told him about me and he's interested in details so maybe I can take over the washing duties in the warm weather.

That BMW in your slide show is awesome!

yea, it sucks to have some of the cares roped off, but I guess in todays world its now normal.

Ferrari used to have great exhibits, now, it was one black F430 and that was it.

Mini also had a big showing last few years, no it's much smaller.

I think most of the show was driven by the economy or lack thereof.

Years ago, the show was THE show to go to with all types of cars spread out, easy to see and reach, more working engine examples, more special cars etc.

Like I said, it was a disapointment this year. The big three had large exhibits, but not as "glitzy" as before.

And, yes , it was busy and crowded when I went. Even the Porsche area was difficult to navigate and speak to some of the PCNA people. One dealer who was there wondered why they didn't place my car in the show.. I told him, no one asked.
