Hi,

New in New Mexico - bright sun. 75 year old car nut just purchased a Black 2005 Mercedes clk320 convertible (to replace my motorcycle - need to look at the sky and enjoy the wind and the sun). Lots of water marks/swirl marks/light scratches/medium scratches. Started with clay - then Meguiars swirl remover (2-3 cut?) by hand and Mother's Carnuba wax. Did the entire car - didn't do much.

Bought a PC DA polisher from Autopia - came with Lake orange and Lake black/grey pads and Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover and Wolfgang Finishing Glaze. Because the Meguiars swirl remover didn't do much, I bought a more aggressive Meguiars - "Fine Cut Cleaner" (5 Cut) - cheaper than the Wolfgang Total Swirl remover and can't find the Wolfgang locally. I only have a bit of the Wolfgang Swirl remover left, but, I may be using too much on the pad.

It seems to me that the Wolfgang is better with the PC DA than the Meguiars Fine Cut at removing the Swirls/Scratches. Takes me about 4-5 hours to do a partial side of the car - polish/glaze/wax. Have to go over several times to remove the marks and am thinking that I might need to go to a heavier cut Meguiars.

Because of weather, I am working in my garage - probably poor lighting (overhead Fluorescent lights and one portable garage light - thin glass tube and puts out a lot of heat!). I probably should install more lighting.

I have been reading detail forums to educate myself, but, definitely a newbie at paint correction. Usually, I just clay/wax/California duster and wash to keep my garaged cars looking new.

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions/corrections will be greatly appreciated and most welcome. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Welcome to AF! You might want to try Black Fire SRC Compound and Polish. It's very user friendly IMO and will work well with your hard clear on the benz. You can order both of those from here.
BLACKFIRE Duo
$49.99

If your not wanting to order something and gonna get more MEGS products. Being that your don't have a lot of expereince you could try Ultimate Compound/Ultimate Polish. Great for enthusiast and does a good job.
You'll get a better finish with the Black Fire stuff but it will barely noticable to the untrained eye. Good luck!
