New Wash Bucket

Hey y'all,

Simply amazing, Wally World is really putting the boost on their detailing selection. They now carry A LOT of Black Magic products, among which I stumbled upon this:

It's a 4 gallon wash bucket with a grit guard at the bottom for only $9.79! Meg's wants $16+ for theirs, and doesn't even come with a bucket. You can't beat it!

The grit guard is about 1.5" off the surface, however, it does have a problem....it floats! I need to find somehow to keep this down at the bottom of the bucket.

It has 2 handles, and they are rubber gripped, so they feel good and you won't drop the bucket while moving.

I was pretty impressed with it today, except for the floating part.

The graphics are optional :)

I printed them out on the computer, sprayed some aerosol adhesive, and then cut out the letters individually with a razor.

Unfortunately, it didn't stick well when I went to spray paint it, but the razor marks were clear as day, so I took a paint marker and filled them it. Came out pretty good!

I have the same bucket, been playing with it for a few weeks. It floats for sure. I find that if you leave the grit guard in there when mixing your soap solution it helps, why I don't know. For $10 it is a nice bucket.

Yes Nick.................... but the one at Wally world doesn't say "Meguiar's" on it! :D

I remember seeing that Bucket. Works not bad from reviews. You can make your own grit guard, just as long as u tie it down and use a chicken wire setup.

Could it be that it is designed to float to keep the stuff flushed off the top of the guard?

Yes Boss, I have a new found respect for Meg's and Wally World...........just bad experiences with both in the past :)

Good call Charles, I'm not quite sure what the floating part could add?

I just picked up some Blackmagic detail brushes tonight from Wally World they look like someone put some thought in making them. they also look kinda jazzy

I agree Buff, I was impressed with what they have come up with. With their advertising too, it looks as if they are making a run toward Turtle Wax and Meg's.

Read somewhere that someone went to home depot and got a grated flourescent light cover and cut out a circle small enough to go inside a 5 gallon bucket but large enough that it would wedge inside the bucket about 3 inches from bottom.

Have you considered velcro. or maybe some lead weight from the fishing tackle isle. Tie them on with some fishing line and drop it into the bucket. The lead wont rust like other metals. Interesting concept with the gravel gaurd. I haven't seen this one yet.

Is the grit guard necessary?
My wash mitt is probably at least 6" away from the bottom of my wash bucket when I reach in up to my wrist. I can't imagine a time when my wash mitt would be close to touching the bottom of the bucket.
The buckets I use are 5 gallon. The type that many construction products come in.

Charles

I thought about that too Charles; the mitt typically floats. Here is how I used it yesterday: I used The Details/Poorboy's bucket for suds, and another of just water. After washing a panel, I shook vigorously in the water bucket, and then rubbed the mitt on either side of the grit guard.

No Swirlies yet! :bigups
