New to machine polishing, am I doing the best I can?

Sorry for posting the following info 2 times but the other one is in the newbie section and I figured this question should go in the machine polishing section. I bought the UDM intro kit with PB SSR2.5, SSR1, EX-P, and Natty's Blue. (My explorer is black and my wifes 6 is dark gray) Anyway I read this site as much as I can and end up on here several times a day lately. After I get my 10 posts, I need to post some pics of my neighbors black Rodeo. It is heavily oxidized and I want to make sure I am doing the best job possible for them. I did a 50/50 on the hood with 2.5 and an orange low profile Wolfgang pad and then the CCS white pad and SSR1. It cleared up pretty well, a huge difference actually, but I am seeing lots of white specs and what looks like cuts in the clear. Should I stop there after seeing that or try to go deeper? I would like it to be as close to flawless as possible but I do not want to go to far causing the clear to fail. Hopefully I can get 10 posts in the next few days so I can post pics of what i am talking about. Anyway. glad to be here and looking forward to contributing to the community. Thanks, James

Could you provide some pics of these "cuts in the clear?" It sounds as though maybe the paint is cracking from beneat the clear. My Dad's Civic has this...assuming we are talking about the same thing here. Try doing SSR 2.5 on a white pad after an orange pad and see how that goes. If you're happy, I'd follow up with SSR1 on a white pad.

Best of luck!

I would love to post some pics but as I said in my post, I cant until 10 posts. Thanks for the info though. I will try the white pad as well. Maybe I should post in other areas to get my 10. I just didnt want to be a post whore. Thanks again,

James

I'd also be interested in seeing pics becuase this isn't the first time I've heard this happening with the SSRs, but I've never actually seen pictures of the white areas.

That particular "appearance " (if Im reading this right) has been discussed quite a bit with 2.5. I actually stopped using it after a couple details after seeing this happen. When using 2.5, make sure you keep speeds below 6 and take some additional passes making sure the abrasives roll themselves out (finish) as opposed to beating them to death with pad and UDM.

Or.............your just seeing the polish fill in the minuscule paint chips......

I will post pics as soon as I get the 10 posts. I do not believe this is from PB at all. I think it is the clear coat cracking. It is like a thousand 1/16 inch scratchs all going different ways. It is actually difficult to get a clear pic of them. If I already have SSR2.5 and SSR1 would you guys (and possibly girls) recommend getting SIP and 106FF or just wait until I finish these off?

Alrighty, 10 post down and going to try to post an attachment. This is a blurry pic. I will try to get a better one tonight.

Have you seen this happen with 2 or 1 also?

I agree with Patrick. That looks like clearcoat failure or like the vehicle was peppered with road ash. Did it look that way before you started polihsing?

Ya thats the clear coat getting messed up over time, nothing you can do. I had the same type of look on my car before I did the $100 paintjob. Clear coat was failing, and those cracks are just the start of it.

I think I can see it on the other side of the hood as well. That shot is a 50/50 of the hood and the other side looks like it is there but it has so much oxidation on it I cant really get a good look until I start polishing.
