new to detailing

Well, had a little incident at my girlfriend's house the other day, her dogs thought my car was a carpet or something and they kinda hopped on my car with their muddy AS HELL feet.



i was pretty pissed when i saw it, i always feared them doing this as i've seen them do it to their other cars before.



So anyways, they left a few marks, it's a pretty thin scratch, it's not really noticable unless you're looking pretty close, but it bothers me.



So i went and bought Mother's Scratch remover and some Mother's Carnauba cleaner wax.



Now, after doing some more reading, i've started to think that the scratch remover might be a little too strong for my particular situation and might actually do more harm than good, So would the cleaner wax be enough to take out those little scratches and put back that new car shine?



I'm new to polishing/waxing as i've never really done it before, so any info would be helpfull.
 
The cleaner wax is probably non-abrasive. It may have some fillers, so it would appear to remove the scratches, but in reality they are just getting partially filled in.

Can you feel any of the scratches with your fingernail?

I would try the scratch remover on part of a scratch and see how it goes.
 
Your products wont be too strong for the task. Like Paul said, can you feel it with your fingernail? If the mothers stuff doesnt work maybe try Meg's Scratch X.
 
yea i can feel it with my fingernails, but just barely.







and, a newbie question; the cleaner wax will not dull my finish will it? I'm guessing it will do just the opposite, it will give me extra shine right? I'm just a bit confused between the differences in waxes and polishes etc.

Not sure if the e-book is available since the board upgrade but it is worth a download. It will answer about 95% of your questions.
 
Not sure where the link is any more. Look through the autopia university and detailing forums for threads about polishing and also through the product discussion forum for polishes. Those threads should get you started.
 
And since you are new to this, if you go ahead and use that cleaner wax...put it on more thinly than you think you should, and be very careful to avoid any textured plastic trim and rubber.
 
ok, thanks for that tip Setec, i was out washing my car and i'm just about to go wax it now, so i'll do just that
