New to detailing

1z is an entire brand of products, and frequently recommended on here. If you're looking to order online, 1z might well be worth it. m80 tends to be easier to find.

I'm no expert on it, and i'm doing my own research right now (sry), so maybe one of the pros can give you some insight into what options you have with 1z.

Instead of ordering M80 through Amazon, may I suggest that you order it through one of Autopia's sponsors: Auto Detailing Solutions or AutoGeek. Type in the word "autopia" and you'll get a 10% discount.

And I have some non liquid Turtle Wax Platinum Series, can I use that with a buffer? Of do I have to do that by hand..I already spent 40 bucks so I'm not sure I wanna buy new wax.

I did purchase the Meguiars M80 and Clay Magic Blue Kit

None of those sites carry both the things I need. Thats kind of rediculous.

Well, actually it's not ridiculous. The specific items you intend to buy are not sold directly by Amazon. They are sold by re-sellers. This means that you do not get the Amazon free shipping, no matter how large the order. In this particular case, the reseller for Megs' M80 happens to be Palm Beach Accessories, which just happens to be the same outfit as AutoGeek. I made this mistake when I ordered some Collinite through Amazon. So if you order the M80 through AutoGeek and invoke the Autopia coupon, you at least get 10% off. Now the curious thing is that the Amazon price for M80 is $16.99, whereas the AutoGeek price is $17.99. But with your 10% discount, the AG price becomes $16.20, so you end up saving a whopping 79 cents! :grinno:

OK, with the Clay Magic Blue and the M80 you should be able to improve things a lot. I'd probably just do the TW wax by hand, but I don't see why you couldn't use it with the buffer.

But honestly, I'd go by some Collinite brand wax and use that instead. Oughta be able to find it locally.

Might want to order from these folks some time: Aloha & Welcome to Our Oasis for All Your Auto Detailing, Auto Detailing Supplies, Auto Detailing Equipment, Auto Detailing Products, & Auto Detailing Accessories for all your Automobile Detailing

What collinite wax should I buy? I'm going to wash, claybar, polish, then wax. I should only polish each area one time, correct?

Oh, and I have a few spots on the car that need touch up paint..just little chips. Should I do that a day or 2 before the buffing?

??

Check out the local Harbor Freight store (if one is local to you). They are discontinuing Collinite but some stores still have it in stock. Some marine stores also carry Collinite products. You can can also order it online through AutoGeek, Amazon, and ebay.

bigdawgfoxx- Yeah, do any touchups a while before you polish..the longer the better so the touchup paint has a chance to both dry and cure.

For auto supply places, check the yellow pages under bodyshop supplies or automotive paint.

Oh, and I edited my previous reply so the link would work :o

I'm pretty pissed that everything is going to be here tomorrow except the wax, so I guess I wont be able to work on it this weekend...

Is it ok to dry your car with a chamois? It seems like it could scratch it really bad but maybe not..I always use one.

Two problems with chamois (which I used for years, my John Bull is still like new and will probably never wear out):

- No nap to trap abrasive [stuff]. The chamois itself won't scratch but if/when you get something between it and the paint that something will scratch until you wash it out of the chamois. Towels with nap offer someplace for the abrasive stuff to go/get trapped away from the paint, and plush towels allow you to dry with less pressure than with the usual "dragging the chamois" method.

-My chamois always left *some* amount of water behind (synthetic ones do this too). It might be a miniscule amount, but it's still not 100% dry. Waffle Weave MicroFibers get *all* the water (as can cotton towels). I simply *always* had to go back over a vehicle with something else after using the chamois.

Oh, one more thing...cleaning chamois is a PIA, even with the proper chamois cleaner. And yeah, you do need to clean them out even if they look clean (minerals/etc. from your water).

I always just throw my Absorber brand chamois in the washing machine lol. So waffle weave microfiber towels are best? Can you post a link?

ttt.

Also, since I have everything except the wax now, can I wash and claybar now and then just wash and polish/wax on Monday? I shouldnt have to clay bar immediately before polishing as the car shouldnt pick up containants in like 2 days, correct?
