New to Carnauba Paste

Well, i'm thinking I might have done something wrong when using my Carnauba wax. I have #16 and Sourvern paste which i'm already used to using Liquid like NXT and moosewax. I only apply by hand right now and currently i'm sticking my fingernail into the #16 and pealing off a chunk, then smashing it into pieces and rubbing it into my microfiber applicator pad. Is this the best way to do this? or am i messing things up? it just doesn't seem right.
 
No no no. You don't actually take the paste and apply it to the pad...just take the applicator pad, and rub it around INSIDE the jar....rub it on the wax, then apply to the car.
 
well, i guess that could work too....i guess those little details, people assume noobs like me would figure out on their own...hah
 
The second one would be best. I use those mf applicators to apply dressing to the dash or sometimes working in polish in areas i can't reach with the pc.



I just use the yellow foam pad distributors throw in for free, meguiars yellow foam pads you can get almost anywhere locally, and poorboy's pva applicators for applying ealants.
 
I like to apply #16 by PC to get a very thin coat, but it's easy to do by hand also. Try "lightly" swirling your foam applicator on the top of the #16 and it will turn into a sort of liquid, then squeeze out the excess and apply as thin a coat as possible. A thin, thin, thin coat of #16 is the key for easy removal.



Like the others have said, you can get the yellow foam applicators almost anywhere.



If you ever step up to the PC you can apply #16 to your finish pad by lightly scraping some off the top with a small plastic putty knife (my method), a plastic razor blade, or a small rubber spatula. Apply a thin coat to your pad and go to town. This method isn't needed by hand because you can fit your applicator in the tin of #16. HTH
 
I know this is a stupid newb question but along the same topic, I am going to be buying some products to detail my Black 300ZX and I heard that Souveran is great for dark cars. I was wondering if there is a big difference between luiquid and paste Souveran?

I agree, foam is better. I have the Der Wunder microfiber pads, and the quality isn't that great. After 1 use I won't let them near my paint again.



There is a difference between Souveran paste and liquid. Both are extremely easy to use, but using the paste is just something that every enthusiast needs to experience :)

Yeah, that's the ticket :xyxthumbs The whole thing about using #16 is a) the "turn it liquid" technique and b) thin coats.
 
Ryan-I've only used the paste version of Souveran, but I can tell you it really is outstanding on dark paints. The key is excellent prep though, you can't just apply it and get spectacular results. Using a glaze like Vanilla Moose or Meguiars #81 Hand Polish really works well with Souveran.
