New tires cost question.

Oh come on, drdrugs, we were in the middle of a serious discussion...I had to report you...anyway, I never really thought about this, if you have a TPMS, after 4 or 5 years when the battery dies, you have to replace the whole sensor in the wheel, because they aren't serviceable?

^Thats crazy. I bet they don't disclose that when they are selling you the car :) Those sensors are $100 each add the dealer mark up and you could easily pay $150 a sensor. I guess this will be the new cost for all of us who buy a car after September 1, 2007, which i believe is the NHTSA requirement day for most cars to be fitted with the system.

Why wouldn't they build a generator into the wheel hub to power the monitors? Just a thought.

The big thing to be taken away from this thread should be to ONLY go to dealerships for warranty work and vehicle info, and obviously purchase of vehicle. NEVER by parts from them unless you've price checked, and for some incredibly hard to understand reason, the dealership is cheaper.

I'm more concerned with the "young, attractive, single" part of the story, maybe a dinner and movie could cheer her up.

Eh...I think you guys look at it wrong.

So, everyone should have that knowledge. She wasnt ripped off. She was too stupid to know the difference. Its not like they handcuffed her and forced her to chose and buy those tires.

A person who is uninformed/aware about a subject because of the way they were raised or what they were taught is not "stupid" by any rational persons thinking.

By your way of thinking anyone that comes to this web site to ask questions is "stupid", anyone who makes a mistake in life is "stupid".

I would be willing to bet that there people are right here on this web site who were taken advantage of by a dealership in there life time, that doesn't mean they were "stupid", they just had not learned one of life's little lessons yet, don't go to dealers!

If any local guys want tires at my cost, let me know. I get the best deal on Toyo. I dont sell ties but I have a wholesale account with a tire dist. and I just want to help out any autopians.

Mods delete this is I'm breaking any rules. .

I adjust for tires on these vehicle's all the time and I've NEVER heard of any Nissan needing any special tools or repair procedures for a tire replacement. Today I paid $45 for a mount & balance for 1 tire on a Ferrari 360 Spider($40,000 worth of damage). That vehicle didn't require any special tool? She got scammed!! Alot of dealerships prey on unknowledgeable people and they capitalized on this one big time. She needs to contact the General Manager of the dealership and complain. In addition, she should definately contact the BBB and report them for unethical behavior. Just because she already paid for the tires doesn't mean she can't go back and do something about it. I wish her luck.

I just paid $892 for my new performance tires.

That is exactly why I posted the question David. It just snapped my twig when she told me about it ! Next week she is going to bring me the receipt from the dealership and I can hopefully provide more information. Thanks a lot for your constructive comments.:goodjob
