New SUV, what do you think of these 2 choices?

TigerMike, for your price raneg look into a CPO 4Runner. Made in Japan like your G35. Let someone else take the depreciation hit.

Why dont you get an extended cab Chevy truck? It would be cheaper, and haul more...(assuming you get one a couple of years old of course)

Skip the jeep unless all you want is a fun toy. I have been there, yes I had my jeep robbed while the top was down. It was terrible on long trips, used a ton of gas for it's size and unsafe, but that was s 1994 wrangler. The open air thing gets old after the first sunburn. I am not a downer, but it is a second car for me anyway. Also in the shop a lot.

If used is your thing. A 4Runner might be worth checkig out.

ah...........4 runner awesome vehicle. Very nice indeed and realiability 2nd to none. Depreciation, better to buy new. Not much depriciation on a toyota. Hold value better than any other.

Jeep......love them, had one, very fun. But, for a daily driver I don't recommend it. Very noisy on the highway with a soft top, it flaps around. Security is also an issue. You are correct the flaps just zip up and you have access to what ever you want. I used to just leave my doors unlocked. Why risk someone damaging your vehicle with a knife or scratching the paint. Then there are people who like to steal the tops, so they don't have to buy a new one.

I would consider a Nissan frontie double cab. Plenty of towing power, cab space, ride is excellent, gas milage decent and lots of cargo space in the back. Plus off road capability is awesome.

What about the new GMC Acadia?

I do like the specs on the Acadia (nice hauling room at 116cu in) and it's pretty nice looking, however it's a touch out of my range, most of them going over $30K I believe. I won't have much of any down payment money available (saving for house) and no trade in, so I've got to stick to my range (mid to low $20K) or a pmt <$500/month. :(

Trucks, like the Chevy mentioned, are out, as my wife just can't stand them. So, I'll be sticking to some sort of SUV for sure. I always did really like the 4Runner and I guess used could be a possibility. I know they are a bit out of my range new, but never considered looking for used I suppose. New Xterra vs used 4Runner...hmmm...now that's a lot to think about too!

Does the VUE suffer the same 5-speed tranny problems as Acura/Honda? I sold my 01 Acura because of the tranny. I hope they got things fixed by now. But I would be torn to buy another auto Honda/Acura.

the tranny are fine if you change the fluid

how many miles did you have on your acura?

how many times did you change the tranny fluid?

I think you could get a base Acadia within that range. Another crossover that people tended to sleep on was the Ford Freestyle. You could get those used for little or nothing.

Another option could be the Magnum or Caliber.

Isn't the Saturn Outlook cheaper than the Acadia? And Saturn dealers are so good to their customers.

The new Vue looks promising as well. And it may be a better size for you. The "new" Escape also looks very nice.

I did test drive an Acadia (SLT) today and was impressed with the leg room and head room, even with a sunroof. The controls of the Acadia are nicely laid out and logical versus many GM products from the past years. As for handling, it's better than many regular sedans. The ride is quite smooth and compliant.

The only nit I have is with the engine. For a 275 hp motor, the pickup is a little lacking.
