I need to know where to start with these. I have never had a new pair of chromies, so I ask the detail gods to point me in the right direction.

Should I start by cleaning them with window cleaner and then waxing them??

What have you guys done to wheels to improve the longevity and make them easier to clean??

Here are some pics.....

THANKS!!!!!!!

Just give them a quick wash and then put a good durable sealant or wax on them to protect and make future cleaning easier. For a sealer you can buy stuff made for wheels like Poorboy's Wheel Sealant, or any good sealant like Zaino, Klasse, etc.. If you use a wax I'd go with Collinite 476 or 845 for the durability they offer.

It may not be better than any other sealant, but I love using the Poorboy's on my chome American's on the street rod. It is easy to use and has a great smell..... just my 2 cents....

Agreed with Eliot Ness. If they need a polish I would use a light polishing or finishing pad on them and a very light / chemical polish before sealing them. When you clean them go with a good and gentle wheel cleaner or regualr car shampoo and a soft wheel brush.

thanks for the responses guys.....

I cleaned them with a glass cleaner and a MF towel and then waxed them with some mothers wax I had on hand. They really looked nice after that.

As far as a sealant, this goes on last correct? or should I seal them and then put some carnuba wax on them??

Sorry for the dumb questions, I am not really up on prep work for chrome.

Also, does anyone know where I could get some decent sealant on short notice? I looked at the poorboys site and I'm not sure it would make it by this weekend. I am putting them on this weekend...:getdown

I am in the Tampa Bay area....thanks!

get your tires mounted first because they will slop a bunch of lube on there to get the tire on and get it all dirty. oops, too late :doh

You want the sealant on there first because it won't bond properly on top of a wax. I doubt that you'll even want to use a wax after a sealant on chrome wheels.

You might be able to find some Collinite 845 locally. Autogeek and DetailCity are both in FL and carry the Poorboy's Wheel Sealant so if you call they might get it out in time.

thanks guys.......both fine establishments, but I ordered from Autogeek. All of my new stuff should be here Friday.

The wife doesn't even want to know what I just bought...
