New Porter Cable 7435!

Is the OPM wheel dial still at the base near the power cable? If so, this is a major f*ck up by PC that shouldn't have ever happened in the first place. This is my one and only complaint, but it's a big one.

Agreed. I'd like to see it on the top where my thumb can articulate it.

I wonder what the cost will be? I don't see myself buying one unless my current PC blows up or something.

If you click on the link, sure enough, you can see the speed dial is still at the base.

It sounds almost too similar spec-wise to the G110. 0.3A and 100 OPM difference? I mean the G110 is already like the same price as the 7424, to effectively compete with it this new 7435 would need to be like the same price.

It looks cool though, gotta give it that. Much more professional grade looking than my G110.

Nah...click on the link and look again ;)

The speed dial is now on the *TOP* of the housing rather than on the end where the cord connects.

Eh..even if it does go inop (as my older one did), it's so cheap to get one rebuilt that I wouldn't replace it with the new model. Well, *I* might replace it but then I make goofy expenditures on stuff like this :o

Or more heavy-duty. One of my big gripes about the older PCs is that they're kinda flimsy things, nothing at all like a Cyclo for instance. IF the new one is a true heavy-duty tool some people might pay extra for that. I dunno if it really *needs* to be better built, but I just don't like stuff that makes me think of terms like "rinky dink" (even if it's not really justified).

I hate to be the wet blanket, or the rain on the parade, but I think you gents are getting your hopes up a bit too far. My PC's were made in the USA, but IIRC a few years ago Porter Cable started making them in Mexico. I'll bet the US plant where they were built said "Porter Cable" on the building, and I bet the plant in Mexico did, too (or Black and Decker or whoever the owner of PC is now).

But I'd lay dollars to donuts that this new model PC comes from a plant in China that isn't owned by PC, and is probably the same plant that the G110 and the original UDM come/came from, and it will say "manufactured for Porter Cable", and that the design changes are simply the result of this "build to spec" manufacture.

FWIW, I think it loks very nice and professional. Looks better than G110, should work better than the old PC and be half the price of a Flex.

Don't get ahead of yourselves.

I think I hate that speed control location worse. At least from my thinking I can picture myself hitting it with my palm on occasions and switching the speed.

Eh...upon reflection I can see that too  Especially as I'm used to holding PCs down there at times. Hmmm...this might be another case of something looking better at first blush than it turns out to be in actual use but I guess I can't say for sure without using the thing.

It'll be interesting to hear how it works out for people.

After using my PC a lot this past weekend, I'm reminded of two things:

1. Wow, a PC is sure easy to use.

2. Wow, a PC vibrates so hard that it gives me terrible tendonitis.

I'm still wearing a wrist brace from it.

Hopefully the new model has better vibration dampening/counter balancing than the old one.

If you're like most folks and ditched the side handle on the PC, get a bolt and screw into one side to keep that plastic housing from vibrating - you'll thank yourself.

Now I have an excuse for my bad landings! ;)

Man, I love this place... Learn something new everyday. That is a *great* idea. I might just re-mount the handle temporarily until I get a bolt that will fit.

That is only for the rattling, it's not going to do anything for the actual vibration...

True... I do have some vibration dampening foam laying around. I might see if I can attach it to the PC in some fashion.

Man i was hoping the new PC would be an even more versatile tool. LOL Like by the flick of a switch it can change from rotary to orbital. now that would be awesome...

You might try one of those fingerless glove/padded palm/wrist support thingies.

I have had good luck with the mechanix brand of gloves. You can get the padded palms model for around $15 at napa.
