I dont like Pontiacs but the GTO and this are an exception. Very nice styling and what an aggressive look.. The rims on the G8 look HUGEE, wow..maybe too big.

:woot: I want one of these!!!

Too bad the Pontiac logo and grille can make any car instantly uglier. GM REALLY needs to change up the Pontiac design DNA.

I agree. The single grill from the Holden looks WAAY better IMHO. Overall, its still an attractive vehicle.

Anyone knows who's the girl on this video..

she looks like my friend's girlrfriend..

3a.mpg

i appreciate any info: name or sites where can i find her..

Thought I would update this thread a little with some newer pictures of the car...Pricing is going to range from mid 20's for the V6 and lower 30's for the fully loaded GT with the V8

Notice the stichtching on the door panels...If Pontiac keeps the interior looking the way it does in the pictures, it may finally be moving away from cheap interior materials. In my opinion interior appearance/materials is just as important as exterior design. My interior while updated from the 99 I had, still seems very cheap.

You and I both :) I figure by the time I graduate in 09 and get settled into a job there will be some nice low mileage ones for sale.

I think it is a very slick looking car, although I would still prefer a Charger. I also think Ford should drop the V8 from the Mustang into a sedan (Taurus SHO anyone?)

Has anyone else here checked out the Pontiac website lately and seen the G8? Looks pretty impressive to me, hopefully the price is right so it doesn't bomb like the GTO did. More info is available on the Pontiac website...

As a GTO owner I must ask, what makes you think the GTO "bombed?"

Looks a little like a CTS.

I agree. I think this was done on purpose to make it the CTS' lower priced cousin? Kind of like Corvette did with the Camaro, although those two didn't resemble eachother as much as the G8 and CTS. I like it.

And the GTO bombed because it was a Grand Prix with a V8 stuffed in it. Granted it was a nasty V8, but it had ZERO personality. I am indifferent to it, so I am just stating what I think partially caused its demise.

And here's one more question - the G6 obviously targeted women, so it seems the G8 is clearly going after the male demographic, do you all agree?

To me the GTO looked like a Cavalier with a V8...Nothing too special about it, and they were pushing to get these things off the lots. Just my opinion of course..Dont get me wrong I am a die hard Pontiac fan but they need to start spicing up their line up and quit making everything look the same. I will be glad when they replace the Grand Prix all together..it is a model in desperate need of a revival, and Im glad they bagged it all together.

So because of the cars looks, it bombed? What should it have looked like?

If everyone based a cars successfulness off of looks, no car would be successful.

it bombed because it didn't sell like the revamped charger does or like mustangs always have. So they discontinued it rather quickly. Nobody's saying GTO's are bad cars, i sure as hell wouldn't mind having one. but From a sales standpoint they bombed cause they just didn't sell all that great.

Well, that's just not true at all. If looks are the yardstick by which a car is judged successful, I don't know that you'd find a whole lot of folks who would not agree that a Ferrari F430 is sex on wheels.

Perhaps a more objective answer to the question would be that the GTO was an undeniable commercial failure. After an initial fervor of nostalgia purchases when it was introduced, the GTOs might just as well have been the automotive equivalent of paperweights.

Quote from Car and Driver's 10 Best Winners and Losers:

LOSER: Last year, Pontiac expected to sell 18,000 copies of its 350-hp GTO—had hoped, in fact, that the mildly made-over Holden Monaro might even become a successor to the F-body Camaro and Firebird. Instead, the Australian-built muscle car tanked deeper than a Roto-Rooter snake. Only 8229 copies had been sold nine months into the year, with a 168-day supply filling up dealer lots.

Automotive News observed, "So far, the revived Goat looks like a turkey," andAutocar remarked, "The Goat is turning out to be a bit of a dog."

Sigh...Sadly, I don't know that we'll ever see the likes of an SHO again. That car was entirely an accident in how it came to market anyway. And talk about commercial failures. :)

But I don't mind. I had 3 of them. Two '90s and a '91. Absolutely bulletproof engine. Unfortunately the rest of the car didn't hold up nearly as well. But happily, my '91 was eerily reliable. Some days, I'm sad to have gotten rid of it.

God, it was so much fun to (stupidly) street race that car. Not many expected the ol' grocery getter four door to put down mid 6's to 60 and a 15 flat @ 94.5 in the quarter. Even better was starting from a run because then you weren't limited by a FWD launch.

Nothing takes the wind out of a (Please insert Mustang GT, Z28, Supra, 300ZX, 3000 GT, Eclipse GST\GSX, etc) owner's sail like being passed by a grandma car.

And I relished every minute of it.

Alot more muscular...let's face it, it was a sports coupe with the looks of a sedan - to me it kind of didn't have an identity.

And simracer, I had an SHO too, a forest green '93 5 speed, and yes while the motor was bulletproof (Japanese made Yamaha, of course), the tranny was a different story. I wish I had taken a picture when the shop pulled the tranny out and there was a baseball-sized hole in the bellhousing. Figures the only thing that held up in that car was the one piece that WASN'T american made. Did love that car though, especially the cheese-grater wheels, I thought that car was the ****!!!

Like I said, looks are subjective. To me, it looks very muscular, especially from the front and rear. I can see how the sides are little lacking to some people.

And to who ever said the car was discontinued: wrong. The car was in for a three year run from the beginning.

Anyone who's ever actually driven these cars know they are far from failure.

Like others have stated...The GTO should have looked more aggressive. Why would someone want to replace their love of the Firebird with something that looks like every other regular coupe on the road.

I had a Firebird and always had hopes some day GM would bring it back and re-invent it with a new look. Instead we got the re-invented GTO which was nothing to gawk about.

You say driving them will take away all feeling of the car being a failure...but do people want to ride around in a powerful blah looking car? As sales reports show...apparently not
