New Polished Rim s

I have just purchased some polished aluminium rims. I was told that they are very hard to take care of. I was told that I should use a wheel polish on them often to keep up the shine. My question is, can i use rim cleaner ( such as "Meguires hot rims") in between polishings to remove brake dust and to keep clean, or will the rim cleaner strip off the efforts of the polishing. Is the polish a sealer?

If i cant use rim cleaner in between polishings any suggestions on how to keep clean.

thanks guys!

Aluminum polishes do leave behind a thin film of protection, but it doesn't last too long. The film is more a by-product of the polish's carriers than an effort to provide protection.

Use of spray wheel cleaners will accelerate the removal of this film, but I don't think it's a big deal.

Anything you put on polished aluminum to protect it will degrade the shine, in my opinion. You can buy sealers and suchnot, but I believe a good aluminum polish, used by itself, is adequate.

BTW, water spots are a bigger headache. Make sure you dry the wheel thoroughly after washing the vehicle. I polish my billet wheels twice a month, and once a month take them off to do the backside. If you get them in good shape, and keep them that way, they take maybe 10 minutes per wheel to maintain.

try just washing it, then using the strong stuff.

depending on which, wheel cleaner is some super strong stuff. If there is no beading after using chances are the layer of protection from your polish is gone and should be reapplied. A sealant like Klasse Sealant Glaze can also protect the finish without being abrasive. Using this as with any "wax", you need to reapply after any wheel cleaner, so use your regular car wash.

Of course, I'm a fan or Rain-X wheel protectant, keeps break dust from sticking even on mag wheels.
